I think I'm on the wrong track (as usual). I'm starting off with Eight but getting nowhere.

Yes, it's a well-known horse but not a classic winner. To get the answer, you must interpret the first line correctly-the answer will then follow.

    Halfway to heaven?

because an island surrounded by ale would be heaven.

We are talking flat here Tam?

I think i might be getting somewhere....do the far things refer to the planets of the solar system.....recently changed to 8 by the down grading of poor old pluto. The largest of the planets is Jupiter and therefore must be the king. The land encircled by ale must be an island.

    Therefore i get....................Jupiter Island???

Have one on me, Oddy!! You must be pissed. A man of your IQ must be able to see the logic of that ie. 8 far things=planets. Primeval ale=water; etc.
Well done in the comp! I reckon you beat me by a whisker, although I don't know if one or two beat us both. Unusually I spent 5 minutes deciding whether to choose Grandouet or Zarkandar. Tough!
Did you have a good birthday- and are you still hung over from that?

Primeval ale=water. I didn't know that. Obviously a lot of people do.

    Ah well, next.

PS Just realised I think you put this one up on BBC 606 Tam; sounds familiar now. I didn't get it then. <doh><laugh>

Best birthday for years mate and had some good winners both yesterday and today. At the moment I seem to have the happy knack of lumping on the right ones (especially Zarkandar today) whilst just having a couple of quid on the ones that fail (although Vasco Du Ronceray was an expensive failure today). I backed both Hildisvini yesterday and Cristal Bonus today, hope that is one trend that doesn't continue :(

Just can't stop thinking about those poor kids in USA yesterday though ........................ don't think I ever saw a US President crying at a press conference before yesterday.

Managed to rip those Kauto files from the DVD using isobuster (free trial version), now I just need to sort out the aspect ratio. Lots of free software out there for playing about with these things. Watched some of the early Kauto Star races, god he was electric, even back then. Many thanks for sending that across <ok>

How about every Christmas. Only joking. The more the better; I might get the hang of it one day.

Here's one for you late night viewers:

The once was a man from Greenford
    Who was a complete ****
    And thought D---an was superior
    To his stablemate Kauto Star
Although it could have been Fylingbolt but never himself and New Approach was better than STS
