One person who will be relieved that the gunman is dead is the governor of Connecticut. The death penalty was abolished this year in the state and if the gunman was taken into custody there would be MASSIVE calls for the death penalty to be brought back just for him. It could potentially have been very ugly.

The UK just has a love affair with the knife.

Hard to kill a large number of people at a distance with a knife. It's the easy access to guns that enables angry or unstable people to kill so many. Often killing work colleagues. They even have a term for it 'going postal'. These people are usually inadequates unable to deal with set backs. There is also an element of seeking fame rather than being a nonentity, though most of us would rather be known for doing good.

American news? Still sick interviewing kids specially at that age, but then why aren't their parents stopping it?.

One of the fathers was interviewed on BBC News and he specifically said his son wouldn't be talking. Also it seems a lot of journalists are trying to point the finger at the lack of security in the school. Ridiculous really.

Explosives are still pretty easy to make. And fires.

Yep but still the knife is to us what the gun is to them, it's like a hey look what I got kinda thing.

All sad as ****, it just shows how **** the human race is.

I couldn't agree more, Fran.

I have to defend the human race...the vast majority of people just want to get on with their lives and their neighbours. Human beings can also care about people they don't know on the other side of the world...as this thread shows.

The shooter aka the **** had 4 weapons, a whole class room is being reported missing.

And again, agreed 100%. I am often disappointed by the human race, but ordinary people do an incredible amount of good in the world. Unfortunately, evil gets the headlines. That could change if there was the motivation.

So far I've heard a mention of two handguns. There is a classroom that is still unaccounted for. I don't think "missing" is the right word.

Yep our lives that are destroying the planet, i'll stop now this isn't the time.

According to ABC news he had 4 weapons and a bullet proof vest and yeah missing is the wrong word.

Wow, so the shooter has been identified, and there are reports that one of his parents has been found dead in New Jersey. Also a second person has been taken into custody.
