I disagree completely about Merson's predictions- I think in general he is much better at justifying his scoreline. He also makes a proper attempt to discuss the qualities/weaknesses of a team. He doesnt just go for home side/"bigger" team. He also predicts more than 3 goals sometimes - Lawro rarely goes bgger than 2-0. Yeah, Merson doesn't get it right often, but then if he did he could make a fortune on accumulators! I bet if he had a table like Lawro's it would be a lot closer. Norwich would be higher too
Have a look at the prediction table at the bottom of the piece.... note the glaringly obvious Norwich mistake
I'd be worried if Lawro started predicting us to win. Plus it is so much more fun proving him wrong. I also saw Paul Merson's prediction about Swansea to win 'because of their passing' and just wondered if he'd missed Pilks goal last weekend. Or this article... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...res-best-team-goal-Premier-League-season.html "Move over Arsenal and step aside Swansea - Norwich are the new pass masters in the Premier League". OTBC
This week is especially stunning: "I am going to go for a Latics away win. I can't really give you a logical footballing reason why"
Have to confess I thought it was a wind up, but it's absolutely true!!! Even by Lawro's standard, that's really poor.
For those who've not seen it and like me were daft enough to doubt Kent (sorry Kent): "Norwich v Wigan Norwich will be keen to put their midweek defeat by Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup behind them, but this is one of those games that I think Wigan might just go and win. In fact, I am going to go for a Latics away win. I can't really give you a logical footballing reason why, apart from the fact this is what Wigan do - they suddenly start to sink like a stone and you fear the worst for them, and then they go 'bang' and they come up with a performance. This is the sort of daft result they go out and get. Being beaten at home by Villa might have unhinged a couple of the Norwich players, who have been in such good form. Great runs always come to an end, and it is never easy to bounce back straight away. Prediction: 1-2 " What a 'special' chap Lawro is!
This is contradictory to what he normally says, Wigan are good in the new yr Who cares really, he often gets our results wrong
he's basically saying our league run has to finish at somepoint, so why not now, but not expressed it very well. he could be right. Wigan are hardly on fire themselves
i don't think anyone has a problem with him predicting we will lose, but to say he 'can't give a reason why' is pretty lame and hardly dispels the belief that all norwich fans have that lawro simply doesn't like us. lawro always plays his predictions 'safe', so to suddenly go against the form book is a surprise. well it was a surprise until you see its us!
I normally defend Lawro, usually by saying it is a plausible scoreline, but I will be shellshocked if we lose to Wigan. <-- And any Ipswich fans might want to bookmark that comment in advance of Saturday.
they should have beaten us last season - its hardly outside the bounds of possibility is it! i think a draw is more likely than a defeat but its the reasoning he uses which is utterly stupid.
