Just watched the interview with Kelvin WIlson there and it was enlightening to say the least. He said that Celtic have struggled in the SPL only because of the Champion's League. He explained that he was physically and mentally drained after the CL games because of the high work rate required. As he said, in the Barca game he only got 4 or 5 touches of the ball yet he has never been so exhausted after any game. This is in direct contradiction to what people in the MSM are saying, especially Hugh Keevins, who for some reason dismisses that notion, he is firmly of the belief that Celtic's poor performances in the SPL are mostly down to the lack of a Rangers. Now don't get me wrong, that may be a factor, and that mentally the players are not giving their all in the SPL, because they know they will win it easily, other factors are of course involved, but if Wilson says the main reason is the exertions in the CL then i'm of a mind to take his word over any old hack with an agenda to try and convince everyone that he was right about armageddon all along.
Just refresh my memory DA how many CL games did Keevins play in ? How the feck would he know how a player would feel after a CL game
If challenged on it he would argue that this was "only his opinion" as he always does. It would be interesting to ask Keevins if he was willing to modify his opinion in light of Wilson's position on the matter. I doubt he would.
I would have no doubt Wilson is right. I have watched team results in many Countries in Europe and it is seldom that any team gets a win in the game before and the game after a win in the Champions League. Mental approach is so important nowadays that it is almost impossible to get it right for every game. If a manager doesn't make changes for domestic games he runs the risks of injury or tiredness of limbs and minds. If the manager makes changes some players feel that he isn't too seroious about the game and maybe they don't get themselves pumped up properly.
