Well we proved we are not a one man team because we won without Bale. I'm glad that the third goal went in because I did not want to win it on an own goal. The vultures from the other clubs would have been swarming around us had that happened so up yours the lot of you.
 
Went to the game last night...so this is what I thought.Dempsey was excellent. Sandro does what he always does.Lennon worked really hard at covering back. Vert played well.Carroll wasn't great(which is a shame).Ade ok. Defoe scores as usual. Naughton not a good game.Walker ok.Ref dodgy.
Their fans were on great form..Although we shut them up after the 2nd goal went in,with "You're not singing anymore"....We deserved to win and the result wasn't really in doubt..except for maybe 5/10 mins after they scored. All round a good night out,except for the weather.COYS.

Do you think so? I thought they were poor by supposed standards.

Greek fans are generally known as pretty loud supporters anyway but a friend of mine is in the GFB Europe firm (a group of Fenerbahce ultras) and I met up with him last night as I got him a ticket for the game (Spurs is his English team), he hates Panathinaikos with a passion due to the Turks & Greeks rivalry etc and he was telling me about their "Gate13" firm which are supposedly a mega rowdy bunch and that if they were there, it'd be extremely loud and they'd likely be equipped with flares etc. Don't get me wrong their fans were chanting for most parts but I've seen far louder and more rowdy crowds than them, they didn't even have a flare! <laugh>

Was anyone at the Lane for the Wisla Krakow game a few seasons back? **** me they were mental! Flares, 90% had their shirts off in the freezing weather and I've never known a group of 3,000 (roughly) fans be so loud. Park Lane couldn't get through a whole song without Wisla either out singing us or whistling so loud that we couldn't hear what we were saying!

PAOK were very loud last year too, I remember them jumping up & down doing a front-facing Poznan and could also smell cannabis!

Was the Wisla one where they were singing the same thing for the whole second half and didn't stop even when there were goals? If not I can't remember who it was but by the end all the Spurs fans were singing along with the tune as well <laugh> The Europa League seems to be better for getting the nutty fans visiting, all those Chumps League teams don't know what they're missing <whistle>
 
You'll get more fans like that where ticket prices are cheap and standing's allowed.
The atmosphere in the Premier League is dying horribly.

If I'm honest I can't remember if that was them with the repetitive chant but I can just remember whenever we tried to sing, they either out-sung us or whistled to a deafening effect! By far the loudest fans to visit the Lane.

Absolutely, this season at WHL especially has been one of the worst I've seen for atmosphere. It started dying down towards the end of last season (maybe due to the poor form) but this season it's just been dire... Seems as if we're losing the "real" fans and gaining ones that are just not interested in properly supporting the team and only care about booing at the final whistle if we lose. Getting sick of them. I really hope the 1882 movement can get a real kick on and bring back the proper fans that sing for 90 minutes, regardless of the score.
 
Doesn't surprise me about the fans from Krakow, I was there a couple of years ago over Easter and not only are the Poles truly nuts about supporting their football teams but it was negative degrees in Easter in Krakow, a cold winter day here was probably a relief for them!

I do love the European teams' fans, they tend to make the atmosphere at the grounds so much better home and away.

Yeah absolutely, I'm truly jealous of the atmosphere they have at their grounds. The Polish/ Greeks/ Turkish all love their football and cheer their teams with amazing passion - win, lose or draw - English fans need to take note and learn from these guys.
 
The Italians are nuts as well, watching some of the Serie A games is a bit mental. The Sicilian derby a few weeks ago had one hell of an atmosphere. Palermo won and Miccoli scored though so I was happy, the fans go truly mental when a goal goes in, they start chanting the name of the player en masse like Inter did at the San Siro against us. Hearing it sends shivers straight up my spine.

Of course the downside of the loud, highly passionate fan groups, exemplified by the Ultras, is that it can all get a bit volatile, violent and political, as the recent events in Rome showed us. I'm not saying that all Ultras groups are in that vein but it clearly does happen.

I think its well worth noting that football on the continent does seem to have far more political and nationalist connections that it does here. Look at El Classico with the Catalonian independence chants that are heard there, for example. While it can make for a great atmosphere to experience I'm not sure that we need those tensions and connotations in English football.

Spurs have never quite kicked in in the Europa, but they still have a chance to, so no complaints. Dempsey, Vertonghen and Lennon were excellent. Walker looked good. He was making me miss Hudd's free kicks for a while. Adebayor was good in patches--which was true of most of the team. Naughton, yikes. Carroll a little shaky, but still had his moments. I thought Sandro looked tired in the first half.

Commentators can't be bothered to read on paragraph of a single decent article about Spurs (or anyone else, I'd guess) before the game. They just repeat the same claptrap people have been repeating. "Not as good this year as last, have trouble opening teams up that sit back." Meanwhile they've beaten every single team I can think of that tried to sit back. They have been up and down, but it's correlated almost perfectly with injuries. So, good when healthy, or injury wracked, would be better descriptions.

The community in North London is 95% Greek Cypriot, not from the mainland . They tend not to follow the Greek teams as
most of them are born in London and have little connection with Greece, except on an cultural emotional level as they have their own
distinct identity.
Most of the Greeks supporting, would have been the large student population that are studying in the UK with a hardcore element
from Athens/Salonika .
