Homophobia is rife Uber and you'll find a few on here. Its one of the most backward, ignorant, and bigoted prejudices out there. Some have it bred into them from imbecilic parents whilst others use "holy texts" as an excuse for their intolerance. Still more, like I said earlier, are actually closet homosexuals themselves.
Think about it: Why would someone spend so much time thinking about gay people? These haters seem to think about nothing else! Is the actual gay act that they're constantly thinking about? I always smell a rat when I hear these uncultured dimwits having a go at other people's sexuality.

That blog is a real hoot. Shame about the fundamental error - confusing belief/ideology and ethnicity. Race, ethnic group, gender, sexual orientation , national origin are all accidents of birth. No one should ever be stigmatized or discriminated against on the basis of things they can't change.
Belief on the other hand should always be open to criticism, because you can change it - whether it's Islam, Christianity, Marxism, Fascism or whatever - people who choose to believe these things should be forced to examine their own beliefs. Of course there is a fallacy in this argument as well. In some places - theocracies like Iran, some communities in the US, totalitarian states like North Korea, people aren't free to choose what they believe, or free to express dissent. An ideology which mandates death for apostasy, like Islam, clearly has self confidence issues, and needs to reinforce itself through repression, fear and ignorance. None of this has anything to do with race.
Homophobia is, of course, explicitly encouraged by many of these religions and ideologies.
This thread will probably go in a dodgy direction, but I find it difficult to let some things pass by uncommented on. I have no time for slave thinkers.
In what way are those raised in another time altogether 'imbecilic'? It's like calling a confused octogenarian dutch a 'racialist' just because she's scared of an Asian doctor, having never been examined so intimately by anyone except her late husband. The rate that both society and opinion has changed in recent times has been phenomenal. That members of the older generations have been left behind is not necessarily their fault. In this Brave New World of tolerance and understanding, perhaps we might show a little of both to them? We can have Utopia when they're dead and gone.
Who cares whether Barton or anyone for that matter is gay or not. Frankly, he could own a full Julie Andrews record collection etc and I would have still thought he was a top bloke, if he had performed for us. Fact is, he was generally mediocre, often appalling and put us through a load of crap. For his behaviour, I think he is an arse, if he happens to like other blokes arses, it's not our business or concern.

Islam's record of treatment of women and homosexuals is dreadful. Even to this very day, proponents of that belief system treat these two groups like second class citizens. Savage stuff in the modern age. Extreme Christianity isn't much better. The so-called Bible belts of the USA and Northern Ireland for example are still bigoted beyond belief. There's quite a large movement mockingly called "pray the gay away" where these Neandarthals try to "fix" gay people in pseudo psycho-therapy sessions. No doubt other religions are similar in these areas.
These antiquated (and downright nasty) ideologies are remnants of a bygone age where humans sought to control everything because different things scared them. They'll all bang on about equality and will be quick to take offence at any criticism but they themselves are ignorant brutes that take pleasure in repressing the vulnerable.
It must be said however, that those are the extremes. Of course not all religious people are like that. But in my experience they are the worst form of self-righteous hypocrites out there.
Not from the Koran, but in the hadiths and I am aware that there is debate within Islam about religious freedom and punishment for apostasy. I'm not an Islamic scholar and never will be.

Hmmm. I'm split on that one to be honest mate. On the one hand I get what you're saying RE the older generation. We've all heard old people make remarks that aren't PC and we just laugh because we know they're good people but just not with the times.
My criticism was more aimed at people who have been brought up by bigoted or ignorant parents. A lot of them have stupid, archaic religious nonsense stuffed into their brains and when they reach adulthood, they hold onto these ridiculous prejudices. But lets be fair. There were plenty of people from older generations that were never bigots or homophobes. I remember my grandparents well and they were as chilled and open-minded as anyone today.
So far from having a crack at the older generations mate, I'm vehemently attacking their simpleton off-spring that have now grown up yet are still believing stuff that should be left behind in the dark ages. Unfortunately these thoroughbred morons populate our planet and not a few of them have found their way onto this Board.
