Not really that enthused about Besler. On the right team, he might be decent but Saints are not that team.

Physical, good in the air, plays within himself, pretty consistent, doesn't make mistakes, stops crosses, works hard and is in good shape, can put in a crunching tackle now and again, boots the ball out of danger. He plays that limited role very well and it works in MLS. But I think the pace-y, tricky guys in the Premier League would eat him up with their fancy dribbling and through balls. He would need to be paired up with a faster, more technical player and Saints don't have that, nor do they play the kind of style suitable for stay-at-home defenders.

Is it just me or are all these crap reports winding you up as well? Adam to Newcastle, Luke to Arsenal etc. Would love NC to come out and say no-one is for sale. I know I know it won't happen! Grrr!

guys, dont normally post on other boards, But, Newcastle are taking the piss 5m for lallana. Tell them to f**k off. He is worth far more. Hope you keep him. Sick of the so called big clubs making low offers to try and unsettle players. Hope your board tell them to go and swing. good luck for the rest of the season.

Don't worry mate, he's not for sale <ok>

What would be even better is if NC held a press meeting and said Lallana and Shaw aren't for sell. Then as the meeting was about to end said "oh wait we haven't finished yet". Out step Ogbonna, Lens and Ter Stegen.

Thanks for your interest and I agree with you, no doubt the vultures will be circling over Michu, bet you are glad you knicked him as we were after him at one stage too. £5m for Lalana is a farcical figure.

I would rather have Aurelien Collin from KC than Besler. In that pairing Collin is the more flashy, technical guy and Besler is the no-nonsense guy at the back.

Besler is definitely worth a look for someone, but you have to be willing to wait if you are a Premier League Team. He's going to be a late bloomer. In two or three years, Besler might be the kind of anonymous defender without any obvious standout attributes who still brings a lot to his club because of his physical play and mental smarts. A few years after that, he might even make a good captain and a rock at the back.

He'll make the most of any experience he gets, but right now he doesn't have enough. He should really be going to a championship club and see where it goes from there.

I don't see how Saints are going to get a work permit for Besler anyway. He's not on the National team. Just because he was MLS defender of the year?

I find it strange that you can get a work permit to play for one Engish club, but then have to go through the application again to play for another club.

I assume that footballers have to comply with the same rules as any other foreigner ( non EU ) entering the country to work though - if a company applies for a work permit for a worker and it is issued, then if that worker wishes to leave that company and take up employment with another the work permit process has to be gone through again. Much the same for us in most other countries, until such time as you become domiciled.

I think it's because the work permit only lasts as long as their contract, so if they sign a new contract, with the same or a different club, they must apply to extend it.

Usually a formality of course, as if they passed the criteria for one in the first place, the chances are they still do.
