I've just read an article on Lukas Jutkiewicz on the BBC website and remembered hearing rumours about him coming in last summer. Wouldn't mind having him as an option up front, considering he came from our academy and he scores goals like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byK2oBB_ucQ

1 RB - Clyne / Angel Rangel / Kyle Naughton
1 CB - Peter Clarke / Gordon Greer
1 ST - CMS / Tyson / Salihi
1 CM - Danns? / Howard / Surman

Looool dream on
Whos gonna what to go to the Scum
errrr no one
if they want a far more successful club they will come along to the bigger and better blue team on the south
PFC till i die

David Nugent is a nibble I've heard. I'd prefer Mackail-Smith, but there's your answer to who might prefer Saints to Pompey.

I played in the same team with him at school sometimes (and was often in the same classes as him). It was scary just how much better he was than every other person in our year!

I would class all of the below as realistic, but granted some of them are very unlikely.

CB: Matt Mills, Sean St Ledger, Andre Bikey, Peter Clarke

CM: Andy King, Jimmy Bullard, Chris McCann, Jonny Howson, Lewis McGugan

WG: Max Gradel, Keith Treacy, Chris Eagles, Darren Ambrose

ST: Danny Graham, Billy Sharp, Nicky Marnard, Marcus Tudgay, Craig Mackail-Smith

I'm obviously not saying that I want all of them! Just one of each position - though to be fair, if we just signed one of those players full-stop then I would be very, very happy (at the start of last season I remember saying that I'd be very, very happy if we signed Lambert, Cox or Beckford to help fire us up the division, so I'm hoping for the same sort of feeling again. Any of these players would give me that).

Cheerio Puncheon!!! Enjoy your fall from grace with Blackshit.

Need pace up front, Forte's okay, but not great.

Nugent or Mackail-Smith would be my pick.

Howard or Danns in at CM, and a new defender, maybe Billy Jones.

Don't want Nugent (and not just because of his Pompey connections).

I wouldn't mind Danns, he would certainly add something to our team. But I would hardly jump with excitment at reading we'd signing him. There are better options out there for me.

Most of those are unrealistic. Having just been promoted, we're not in a position to be signing the league's best, some of who will be in demand in the lower echelons of the Premier League.

Nigel Adkins isn't known for marquee signings and Cortese is unlikely to authorise too many. We already have star players and they become expensive on another scale at the next level. The team needed rebuilding last season, but this time around it just needs some modest strengthenings to what is essentially a decent CCC team already.

I'd be less surprised to see some low-cost gems plucked with some careful scouting.

I agree. Adkins has shown no sign of wanting big stars, unless they would fit into the team. He is a real man manager and team builder..he has got Saints playing as a team and will not want to disrupt it. I cannot remember being this confident in a manager before. Although it is possible that we will get an ex-player back if he will fit in, remember that neither NA nor NC have the sentimental attachment to past players that we have. I expect a few good players to be signed (pehaps 2 or 3) but I'm willing to bet that they won't be mentioned on forums.

Prolific Championship players cost a good few million these days, unless like with Fonte, you happen to be in the right place at the right time. I trust Adkins to be sensible.

I'm completely expecting Adkins to leave the big name, big money signings alone. And Cortese did say that this is a 5 year plan, not a 3 year plan. But the title of the article did say wishlist.

I accept that Mills, Howson, McGugan, Gradel and King definately do push the limits of realism, but that's it. Offer the right sort of money, and I think we could attract anyone else there that I've listed. But like we both say, it wont happen - and so long as the players that Adkins does sign do add something, then it's not a negative that we'll be avoiding the big marquee signings.

I don't think the type of players some people are talking about will be good for us, we obviously need 3 or 4 maybe even 5 players but that needs to be without disrupting the great team sprit we have. Its also important that we give the current team confidence that they can be a success in the championship by giving them the opportunity to prove themselves in it.

We need more options next season on the bench as you kinda feel that our bench in the last few games would not really be able to change the game at a higher level although to be fair we have had a lot of injuries lately.

We would definitely be better off signing young and hungry players who will be determined to make their mark in the championship, as we have experience in the squad already with davis, jaidi, fonte, hammond etc. We have Adkins who knows the league inside out and as we saw with norwich, you dont have to have big name players to secure one of the top two spots. (Norwich signed last year crofts, jackson, tierney, wilbraham to name some and they were all signed from below championship level).
