Relax man, it was a joke. People obviously don't have to explain themselves to me, because I'm no one. It would be nice to hear some reasons though, just because this is a discussion board. Gazza had the most votes at the time, but the vast majority of people who posted their thoughts were in favor of Boruc. That's all I meant. Just trying to hear some different opinions.
As for Lambert, we know he has been very good throughout his history with Saints, and even this year in the Prem. Boruc has a long track record of being good at fairly high levels. Davis has a track record with the Saints that is at least pretty good. There are of course doubts whether those players can continue to perform due to ge/mental state/change in league. But Gazzaniga doesn't even have a track record. He's only played a few games and his best performance was only average and the rest were rather awful.
The one thing I like about Gazza is his killing time/ability to boot the ball some way with accuracy. It doesn't show in the stats so maybe I'm biased but to me, I think his kicking ability makes a difference. Davis can't kick either very far or well so he plays it from the back which puts everyone under pressure. Since our offense is better than our defense, you are putting the ball into the feet of the weakest link. Gazzaniga if he kicks it long, 50% or whatever is fine. If the offense gets it, it's a much better chance to score. If they don't, then the whole team (and most of our offense is good about challenging without the ball) gets a chance to defend/slow down the opposition. Of course Gazzaniga undercuts that strength when he makes foolish decisions with the ball, and I feel like right now, his general shakiness in all things outweighs the potential ability of his kicking and the odd excellent save. But that's just like, my opinion man.
If it were me, I would have had Davis or Boruc start against the weaker sides where we can play from the back and hold the ball. And then start Gazzaniga against the stronger sides. The pressure is off that way as no one expects a win. He'll certainly get a lot of experience. And his long ball ability gives us a chance to get lucky on a longball and steal a few points maybe.
But Nigel is an ex-GK himself and we all know he made the occasional awful play. NA has earned himself a lot of slack so if NA goes with Gazzaniga next game I'll be okay with it.
Could see that you were joking from your post - dont worry about FLT, i think that he is having a bit of a mid life crisis at the moment !
I would like to see Davis play tomorrow as i cant see that the goalkeeping situation has improved since he was dropped, and Paulo G has now made some clangers that have cost us dear and he has also looked shaky in his area at times. But as you say if Adkins decides to play Paulo G at Anfield as his statements seem to suggest then thats fine - he is the future. Just my opinion mind.
