The Gills arrive at Deepdale top of league 2, exactly like Southend last season and we know what happened then. (Lost in the replay) This is a tie which will not fill the stadium even at discount prices, we'll be lucky if we get 5000.
It's a while since we've played the lads from Kent at one time we seemed to be dragging each other through the divisions in the late 1990's.
Who could forget the 3-1 win by the Gills in 1997 which led to the sacking of then manager Gary Peters, they could have had seven that day, a game when we won 1-0 with a goal from Simon Davey deep in injury time a couple of seasons later when the visitors under Tony Pulis tried a new strategy og boring people to death it didn't work.
There was a 2-0 Gilolinghm win in a game which kicked off an hour late due to the M6 being blocked and Sepp Blatter turned up at a Preston/ Gillingham game, he was p***ed as well.
As for Saturday the Gills have lost keeper Nelson to suspension mind you last time he played at Deepdale he was beaten from 90 yards, will Fortune be in the nets as he was at Accy last weekend, who knows, have to watch out for Danny Kedwell a decent player also Deon Burton who has been around the block.
Luckily Carl Asaba has retired and won't be able to put the fear of God into the home defence.
Keane and Laird are out injured, Keane had an operation this week and it will be a home debut for the lad from Chelsea Kane.
Suspect neither side would want a replay, which probably means a trip to Kent a week on Tuesday is on the cards.
It's forecast to be cold, so those from the south bring warm clothing.

You've got a good memory, maclad. I felt sorry for Peters. He did a decent job for a time but then struggled to motivate the tem. Anyway, this match against the Gills should be a good match. They are a decent outfit for a fourth tier team & NE have the capability of playing good football.Hopeful Monakana will be back & link up with Kane. If NE are on song then the crowd will be treated with an attacking display & a few goals.

Certainly were a lot of "humdingers" between our clubs late 90's early 00's.

Hope for a good game, and no replay, on Saturday.

Majorclarkent, on this site we expect respectful exchange of views between rival supporters which can also include amusing banter. If you want to sling abuse, go to the Lancashire Evening Post site & join the Blackpool supporters who have a bee in their bonnets about continually haranging PNE. In other words, push off!
 
If we keep to form then you will be under pressure for 45 minutes, it could be either the first or second half but never both. Will we score during our period of pressure who knows, will we concede during our period of playing like circus clowns who knows, the only thing I do know is if we ever play ninety minutes of good football all in the same game we would rule the world.
All the best for the rest of the season (after Saturday) and if luck is with us we might see you next year.
 
In the end Preston North End deserved their 2-0 win over League 2 leaders Gillingham although they had to survive a couple of nervy moments before cementing their place in the third round of the world's most famous cup competition.
North End started like a house on fire and had an early chance which Robertson somehow managed to clear instead of heading towards goal. Wingers Monkana and Holmes were causing the visitors a stream of problems with their speed.
It was no surprise when the home side took a 12th minute lead although there was a touch of fortune about the goal about the goal, Monakana's shot took a deflection and ended up in the net. (1-0)
At that moment in time it looked as if North End would win quite easily but they were give a scare half way through the half when Fish found himself in acres of space, his first effort was tame however his second effort was well saved by a home supporter 15 rows back in the crowd. The Gills fans were about to celebrate a goal from Vincelot however the mammoth reach of Preston keeper Stuckmann pulled out a fine save to save the day.
It became apparent that one goal would not be enough especially when a cross from the right narrowly avoided Burton who was sliding in at the back post.
Within a minute of this miss, the home side had doubled the lead, Davies back pass was woefully short of Fortune who lost the ball to Holmes, the ball squirmed into space were Beavon was on hand to blast the ball home. (2-0) Job done, not quite.
A frenetic start to the second half saw the Gills awarded a penalty for hand ball by Welsh, Burton hit the post with the kick, within a minute Monakana was brought down on his way to goal, most people thought so except Mr Kettle who waved play on. It was end to end stuff as Beavon rattled the Gills post from 12 yards and Stuckmann pulled off a world class save to deny Burton.
As the tempreture began to dip so did the game, North End thought they had scored a third, but a foul on the keeper was given.
Gillingham battled hard but the massed ranks of the home defence kept them at bay.
