Disagree on both counts.
The reason many Chelsea fans want to see him fail is mainly because of his arrogance and continued obsession with talking about us and having digs at the club, players, fans and owner.
Had AVB just gone away quietly, taken the Spurs job and said "I'm here, at THFC and this is a new chapter for me. I made some mistakes at Chelsea but want to move on" many would have been less vindictive/more sympathetic towards him. I also think his unwillingness to acknowledge mistakes and hanging certain senior players out to dry speaks volumes of him as a manager/person.

So far I'm unimpressed with AVB, but he still has time to turn it around. It's going to be very, very, difficult though.
In Harry's last 12 games we amassed 16 points so AVB has actually done better despite missing so many players. And we've played four of last year's top six away from home - Harry only had one in that stretch. It's too early to tell from statistics but the evidence certainly doesn't indicate that AVB is doing badly.Well, not exactly, no. He's taking over a club that finished 4th, but the team's been almost entirely changed.
This was Redknapp's first choice XI last season: Friedel; Walker, Kaboul, King, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Parker, Modric, Bale; van der Vaart; Adebayor.
King retired, Modric and van der Vaart were sold, Parker and Kaboul have missed the whole season so far and Assou-Ekotto and Adebayor have only played about 3 games.
He's had 3 of last year's outfield players available, the whole spine's been missing or has left and Villas-Boas is expected to match his predecessor's results, anyway.
Getting the sack from Chelsea is par for the course. It doesn't tell you a lot about the managers but it does tell you something about Abramovich.
Frankly I couldn't give a fish's tit what Chelsea think of AVB that's their problem not Spurs.
One thing I think worth mentioning is Defoe.
I think Defoe has improved a lot under AVB I think he is thriving in a position where most thought (including me) he would fail.

He's worked really hard at holding the ball up and is even trying now to bring others into the game. In fact I think Defoe is as good as he has ever been at Spurs and if that's a sign of AVB's influence on players it's a good one.
In an exclusive extract from Sunday's matchday programme, Jan Vertonghen insists there is still plenty to be positive about already this season despite the fact we head into Sunday’s derby against West Ham on the back of three straight defeats in the Barclays Premier League.
The Belgian defender has been an almost ever-present name on the team-sheet this term, since his summer transfer from Dutch giants Ajax. He has featured in all but one of our 19 matches and was on the bench for the one he missed – the opening day defeat at Newcastle United.
And in that time, he says he has seen enough of his team-mates to know that the potential is there for this to be a great season, while also acknowledging that we are building for the long-term and the future looks nothing but bright.
“I really feel that we have shown against Manchester United and in spells in other matches – especially the first half against City and the opening 20 minutes against Arsenal – that we have a very strong team and we can beat anyone on our day,” explained the 25-year-old.
“Some results haven’t gone our way but people need to appreciate the situation here before being too critical. The squad is very strong and confident but we are still finding our feet. We have a completely new coaching team and, of course, a new Head Coach, we have quite a few new players who have come into the group and since the beginning of the season, we have missed five or six top-class players through injury, which even the best teams would have found difficult to cope with.
“Mousa, Benoit, Younes, Scott and Ade have all been out at times, yet despite all of that we have had some great results, played some very good football at times and I think we have a lot to be optimistic about.
“Obviously we want to do well this season and I’m confident we still will, but it’s not just about this season. The club has invested in new players and a fantastic new training centre, plus we have some really talented youngsters here. We are putting things in place for the future and I’m sure we will be regularly competing to finish in the top three or four, maybe higher, who knows?
“What I do know is that I’m optimistic for the future and I’m really happy to have made the decision to sign for Spurs.”
