Interesting to read of last nights Champions league match at Braga.......United had just gone 1-0 down early in the second half.....when the floodlights failed.

During that 12 minute gap Ferguson is said to have given his team a rollicking.........end result....a 3-1 win.

Some managers have it ......some managers don't.........end of lesson.....no further comment necessary.
 
Ah well then we're doomed, unless you have possibly the best ever manager in the whole history of football, you might as well not bother.

I think you call that reductio ad absurdum.
 
You don't need the best one ever you need one who can inspire to some degree and knows mostly what he is doing. Fletcher has neither of those qualities. Not going to compare Fletcher with Ferguson which would be a bit daft but comparing him to the average manager he is still pants.
 
His glazed eyes and his imitation of a rabbit caught in the headlights for starters.

You checkout the players in Tier 4 clubs........we have a reasonable squad comparing.

Fletcher was not being compared to Ferguson.....he was being compared with his job title.....Manager,in charge, able to inspire etc etc........the reports were that he had given up with 10 minutes still to go.
 
Because he is the manager and is supposed to coach them and inspire them notdistant. Not you, not me but the players who we all go to see. How come it was eventually Sturrock's fault previously if that isn't the case. Stop trying to defend the indefensible. Fletcher is as clueless as the nickname he has been given. We cannot afford to wait and see if he might get the odd result. We need somebody to get the right results out of these players who actually in the main are quite reasonable for this league. Not Fergie of course or a Morinho but just anyone with a modicum of knowhow. Fletcher is not good enough.
 
Personally, I'm not sure it was all Sturrock's fault, if you remember the criticism of many players about at the time you might agree. Other than whatever influence they have these days over the signing of players, I'm not at all convinced a manager does much more than tinker on the margins once they've been signed.

Oh PS, you need pretty good eyesight to see whether Fletcher's eyes were glazed even if you were in the ground Plymborn. And your assertion that our squad is competitive isn't borne out by results, is it? Me, I always said strength, size & pace are more important than pretty skills down in the basement leagues, so I will accept that maybe we've gone in the wrong direction.... but that's what the fans wanted wasn't it?
 
OF COURSE IT'S NOT BORN OUT BY RESULTS.......that is the whole argument against Fletcher notDistant........he isn't performing.......they went 2-1 down and there was no fight left.

You don't need good eyesight even from 200 miles away to read the signs of defeat and resignation that "we're beaten again" by Fletchers body language.
 
I defended Sturrock in his second stint and I was wrong. I am not about to make the same mistake all over again and keep giving Fletcher the benefit of the doubt any more than I'm going to give Brent the benefit. The jury is just returning for me not still out and it looks like a guilty verdict is about to happen for the pair of them. Take your blinkers off notdistant it's quite refreshing when you actually look and see. The manager is to blame for results. Always has been and always will be and please don't tell me he has nothing to do with signings now because that is just bizaar unless you are in the premiership under certain owners who can't leave things alone. We all see the failings when that happens even in that league.
 
I said elsewhere that unless we get what, 7 or 8 points out of the next 4 games, Fletcher's position will look untenable. What I'm not convinced of though is that short of recruiting SAF a new manager will make a huge difference apart for maybe a one or two game long dead-cat bounce.

We are I suspect where we are with this squad. The tippy-tappy stuff is no good in this league unless you have the muscle to back it up: we probably need 3 players - a big centre half, a big striker & a midfield enforcer who doesn't get sent off in every other game. Of course, if you'd rather spend the money on sacking one manager and bringing in another one......
 
Come on Distant, shame on you, can you not drop the defensive act even after all that's happened? You can't defend the indefensible. It's common knowledge that I've never liked Fletcher, either as a mediocre player, a so called "manager", or even as a person. Remember his arrogance when called up for Jury service a few years ago? Marched into the court and declared "I'm too important to do jury service" only to be put firmly in his place by a sensible judge!!! I will also never forget witnessing him being rude to one of the match mascots a few years back.

Anyway, Feltcher can and will be rightly blamed for failing to create a winning side but it's Brent who is to blame for allowing it to continue unchecked. As Sensible has pointed out, we have to learn from the mistakes of the past. Relationships at Argyle are a bit too cosy for comfort and loyalties run deeper than they should. We saw it with Sturrock, that man was given nearly 2 seasons longer than he should have, because of false loyalties. Do you think Sturrock has given us a second thought since? Not a chance. I still think that if we'd got rid of Sturrock earlier and not allowed him to waste so many millions we might still be in the Championship or at worst competing in League One.

You need to spot the rot early and treat it before it sets in. It's happening all over again.
 
After yesterday's shambolic performance Fletcher said ..... “In this division, you can just as easily have six wins as six losses, so we’ll make sure we’re ready to go again at Bradford.”

At this moment in time does anyone think we will ever get 6 wins on the trot ?
 
Gat......great minds think alike.......I have also mentioned that ground breaking comment on another thread that I have just come off of........Fletcher is in his own little life bubble......surely you have got to be in some kind of private world not to realize that the best league run that he as achieved is TWO CONSECUTIVE WINS.......sorry I didn't mean to shout.

PS.......Gat he has got 4 wins all season so far.......6 on the trot.....don't make me laugh I'm trying to eat my toast.
 
Who is He? We may not get 6 wins under fletcher, i have backed him. But after that showing of complete crap in the FA cup.. i am sorry but he is clueless..
We are a joke and the laughing stock of the football league.. BRENT man up and get rid of him, Instead of sitting there smirking and backing the Manager.

Sort it out, crowds will fall further after this mess. He needs to go before xmas?
 
We need a miracle on Tuesday at Bradford........they will be smarting after losing to Exeter........I suggest that if they do get beaten to make sure the coach stays well clear of Exeter on the way home......or even better don't come home at all.
