Yeah understand where you're coming from in terms of Brad being 41 but his performances last season were that of someone with another decade in the tank. So a keeper wasn't top of my priorities. A CB, CM & ST were.

But the signing of Lloris changed it all for me. As I rate Hugo better I'd start him, as harsh as it maybe on Brad my interests are for the best of the team. It'd be the same if we signed Cristiano Ronaldo (never happening of course!)... Would people really play Lennon over him just because Lennon was in good form?

Hi SOS, good comments but we disagree in part. Brad's performances last year were of an old bloke, just hanging on. Which is why we needed a new keeper.This season, it's been sad to watch. He's slow, cumbersome and at times embarrassing.

I love Brad as a bloke, and of course if that idiot AVB picks him, he'll go out there and do his limited best. If he plays tomorrow, Arsenal will win, he'll leak two or three goals, and maybe sense will prevail.

But you know what, I'm past caring. Until AVB is shunted out of the club, I'll doubt you'll see me at the Lane.

I know you've got your beef with him over the Lloris situation, but i didn't think it'd come to this already, GH10!

Yep, I'm afraid it has. Obviously if we start winning, and look like we're going to achieve something under AVB, then I'll shut up criticising, admit I was wrong, and I'll get to the Lane again.

But the way I feel ATM, there's no way I'm spending good money to go and watch us.

It's not just about Lloris, but without doubt that's the main factor.

Her's hoping we win today, and if Brad plays he has a blinder and I'll come on here, say I was wrong, and I'll be delighted to be wrong.
 
Lloris hints at exit! I think it is most unfair that we should consider pushing him out just because he suffered 5 goals.

The bright side of this is that we may hear less on the matter concerning his position now. :biggrin:
 
Absolutely devastated about today. I was so happy when I saw who was in goal, then dreams turned to ashes, dust to dust, feel pretty low about it, but tomorrow's another day and all that **** :)
 
I don't know what AVB plans to do on Thursday, but to me it is quite important that Lloris plays on Thursday and then again next Sunday. How ever much today's sending off influenced the game, the fact remains we continue to leak too many goals and it's about time we had as settled a defence as possible from now onwards and this includes less choppping and changing with the keepers.

I agree OS and also to show that we have confidence in him. It will not have done him a lot of good to concede 5.
 
It would be funny if this 'stat' and the fact that he continues to get few starts in non-trivial games would play a role in Deschamps trying out Mandanda in the next few games.

5 goals conceded looks pretty bad as a stat regardless of the circumstances, especially in retrospect when the manager picks his team a few weeks down the road.


(and by 'funny' I mean Lloris isn't particularly at fault either for the lack of starts or today's loss)
 
Not going to get involved in the 'big debate' and the bottom line is that I think Lloris was a good purchase.
However, having watched a fair bit of his performances on video in the last few weeks he does seem to have some of those classic Continental goalie traits, making a meal of relatively simple saves and punching when catching the damn ball would be far safer. (Today being no exception....)
One of his techniques is to try and loop/flick the ball over the bar - flash when it comes off but unnecessarily complicated.

He wasn't directly at fault today and pulled off a couple of decent saves, but equally he hasn't filled me with total confidence in his outings to date. He probably does need a few more games under his belt - ideally behind a settled back 4 - something that we have not had all season so far.

I thought he looked nervous before the game today. This is not said as a criticism of him, because I think it was understandable to a certain extent. Once the game got going, I felt he still looked tense and whilst there was one tip over the bar which was clearly 'one for the TV cameras', it did at least help him settle down. As I have said earlier on another thread, I think he has to be picked for the next few games to give some continuity to the defence and also to help him 'bed in'.

Yes, I would agree. He looked nervous at times, and is clearly short on confidence. I don't think the way he has been managed has helped. What he needs now are some consecutive performances to build that confidence, then hopefully, we will see him at his best.
 
What was that poxy flying punch he did all about!?...just catch it!, why put it back in play straight away??, especially when you're under the cosh, pick it up and give your teammates a chance to regroup. He came flapping fresh air at a corner in no-mans land first half, so just aswell it was headed away, not entirely convinced by this bloke yet, but as has been pointed out nerves and a lack of games played a part. Putting Brad back in goal would be very counterproductive now, but I don't see reason just on that game, there wasn't much he could have done with the goals yesterday, they were well finished.

I wouldn't say he was hanging on last season, I was very impressed with his performances and as I've mentioned before, prior to the Lloris signing, I would have been more than happy to see him continue between the sticks for this season and even next. That said I do think he's been a liability at times this season with his slow reactions maybe some of that's down to the pressure of having Lloris here now knowing that before long, Hugo will become number one (even if it's not as soon as I'd personally liked) but in fairness Lloris hasn't entirely impressed but the difference is Lloris has age on his side as well as the fact that we all know how highly regarded he is and how good he can be given more time on the pitch. I also think he suits our system too, our defence is very attack minded, Walker/ Naughton/ Ekotto are good attacking full backs when on form and the likes of Kaboul, Vertonghen and Caulker enjoy a venture up the pitch too and so a keeper who is fast off his line is more sutied and that is what Lloris definitely offers.

Judging by the game yesterday, I did mention in another thread that despite shipping in 5 goals - which statiscally looks woeful - he was actually one of our "better" players, he did make a rash diving two-fisted punch which he should've easily caught but he managed to make 2 or 3 top saves which were near on certainties to hit the back of the net.

Hopefully this won't have dented his confidence and I hope AVB sticks by him now as otherwise it could seriously wreck his mentality for when he gets another chance in the league.

As for saying you're past caring though G10 that's silly mate. Regardless of how bad things get and as much as I disagree with many of the decisions AVB makes, I'll never stop going to the Lane, I love Spurs way too much. <ok>
 
Fair comments SOS, but remember I wrote mine before I knew that Hugo would be playing at Arsenal.

You might think they're silly, but I don't. I can only report how I felt, I was so fed up with AVB I was past caring. I just expected Friedel to play and us to lose. I didn't say I was going to stop supporting Spurs full stop, I know I'm too addicted for that.

But I really couldn't get up any enthusiasm for the teams AVB was picking.

Saturday changed that, I was much happier with the team and approach.
