Rival watch

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Spurlock, Jan 2, 2012.

  1. Now that AVB has turned us into a mid-table club, and 'Pool look like they are going to finish this weekend within 2 points of us, despite having their worst start in more than 100 years, does this mean that we must now consider 'Pool our rivals?

Clearly, we are not good enough to compete with Everton or WBA, let alone the top three, and it would appear that we will have to settle for a mid-table finish along with 'Pool and Arsenal.

Have we been too hard on the Mousers and Roy Rodgers? Have our own expectations been too high, given our apparent limited resources? Is it we who are the deluded ones and not the Mousers?

Today's pain is eased by Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle losing.

    Fair enough, Spurf.

I'm in a dark mood following today's debacle, and I am trying to lighten it by being mildly sardonic with my posts. Please forgive me for my comments, this evening.

Funny thing is I am a good mood because I saw many positives from AVB today. For the first time I am optimistic that he will make a go of it. I have been led to believe that he never plays 442 that he is a negative coach. Today he proved that to be a lie and tbh I think there are more positives to come out of today for Spurs than there are for Arsenal. I look forward to the rest of the season with renewed interest and just want to see what he can do when he has Dembele, Kaboul and Parker back.

  8. Far too good for you, PESKIE. You've never been able to bear the heat of my fire, when I am in full-wum.

    Shame.

I think it will be a great shot in the arm for us to be honest. But I do think Spurs showed some good improvements in this game and when Bale scored it put us on the back foot for a while.

I think you need to stop playing that high line though, it's murderous unless you've got lightening quick CBs

Results didn't go too badly for us today, certainly could have been worse. Almost like we're starting the season again now, but we're starting with at least a few points on the board, and our team is going to get stronger as the absentees return. So disappointed but not desperate. We've also played Citeh, ManU and LeArs away and more teams will lose at those places than win.

    NB, congratulations to WBA!

We haven't played that much of a higline most of the season. We were getting caught out because you were countering quickly against 10 men with fast players outnumbering our defence. I wasn't that we were high up the pitch as you'll find nearly every team has their defence near the halfway line especially when they're losing. Trouble is Gallas and Vertonghen were taking it in turns to run down the flank and Sandro was getting forward too in order to pressure Arsenal again helping you with countering. It wasn't about the defensive line, we were deep with 10 men until you took the lead and after that it was all a case of having nothing to lose and you have more players on the pitch and ones suited to the counter.

Nice spiel, but this isn't the first time you've come unstuck and it's not just because you were losing with 10 men. You were winning at City and playing a high line and but for some poor control from Aguero, you would have been murdered there too.

You can't concede the first goal in every match and expect to always come back. Lesson learnt for United today, they aint all that.

Did you watch the game, we went quite deep and narrow actually, they got their goals because the midfield pretty much crashed into the defence we were trying to defend backs to the wall so much. Think what you want though.
