Which raises another question....Should Spurs have waited 'till January to bring in another keeper ?
Was the risk of losing Lloris before ensuring his signature too great a risk to take under the circumstances at the time ?.

Before we signed Lloris, I actually said many times I'd be happy for Brad to have been given another 1 year deal to carry on after this season. His first year he was great, brought stability and calmness back into the defence and you never had a heart-in-mouth moment when he went to claim a ball.

That said, we've signed who I'd consider to be one of the top 10 keepers in the world, whether we knew other teams were sniffing around and therefore wanted to rap it up before Jan is pretty irrelevent in my opinion, fact is we have him and I personally feel he should've been number 1 by the QPR game. Keeping what I'm sure many of us would consider the better keeper on the bench is ludicrous. As much as Brad is a fantastic keeper, when a better player signs a natural instinct would be to select the better player.
We've dropped current players for new players before; Ade signed on loan last season so Defoe was demoted, Friedel came in over Gomes and so on so I don't see why we haven't put Lloris in yet.

It's all well and good for some to say Hugo is seen as "the future" by AVB/ Spurs and he'll get a chance soon enough but Lloris isn't an 18/19 year old kid with potential that'd be delighted just to be involved with the squad to then develop as a potential first choice, he's an established top class keeper who was a major coup for us. I think the longer we leave him out, the worst it'll do for his confidence which is why currently we might not be seeing the best of him when he does play.

sometimes it doesn't matter who you hire though SOS, the business model must have clearly had flaws to accrue that much debt, and the recession was bound to have made a huge difference.

If you could pay someone 40k a week and avoid all financial problems how come the whole bloody world is in such a mess. I've mentioned before I rarely pay attention to media commentary. I judge the person from their recent history and how they currently fair. Which thus far, AVB has certainly not lived up to any of the hype, nor has he impressed me.

You can slate the logic of my argument as much as you like, I've yet to be convinced by anything you say, you live on a form blind hope that AVB will take this team to another level, I don't. AVB has failed to impress me with his style of football, selections, treatment of players and substitutions in games. From the stats THFC6061 posted in his new thread, sacking Harry was clearly a ridiculous decision so yes, despite being a huge Levy fan myself, find his decision to employ AVB so far as a poor decision.

If I were paid £40k a week, I'd ensure I have the right people around to help make sure decisions I make will ensure I don't end up filing for bankruptcy or at least try to cut at a loss where bankruptcy COULD have been avoided. My judging your argument is a lot easier than second guessing the Lloris situation or the Friedel one. The difference is I am dealing with what is front of me for all to see. I don't need expert knowledge to read what you have written in fact it's fairly simple for a god like me to deal with such an argument.

We sign a better player but doesn't get played. There's no in depth theory to it. If he were injured/ unfit like Ade was at the start of the season I'd understand... But he wasn't. Of course I don't know if my theories are correct or not and if you want to class it as second guessing so be it, I base it on what I believe, what I discover and from what others have shared, how else can I base my opinions on the situation?

In regards to Friedel, I merely stated that while he was doing a credible thing, to me, he clearly didn't assess the situation thoroughly, nor hire the best people to ensure that he wouldn't end up in such a mess despite earning in a week what many would need 2 or 3 years to make. I feel extremely sorry for him as he wasn't being a pr*ck like the likes Etherington, Chopra and co who gambled their money away. It's just I think he may have been naive in the decisions he took to open such a large organisation and the people he hired to do so. That's not unfair as you mentioned earlier, just an observation.

If funding is pulled, or there just isn't the lending/money available any longer, then these people can't perform miracles if their hands are tied by the powers above, which are the banks.

The recession has seen big companies go under who had the correct personnel in place, ensuring that business was run well for years and years until recently. unfortunately, outside factors can leave a businesses helpless.

This was the point I was trying to get at though.

If he was trying to ride it out, despite the fact it was there as a not for profit organisation, I don't see the logic in it. It's very admirable of him for doing his best to support a community, people like him don't deserve to have the trouble he's had but if the money wasn't there, he should've pulled out long ago and tried to have prevented bankruptcy.

But meh... I'll leave the more in depth financial analysis side to others who probably understand it a lot more than me. Just from my perspetive, while what he was doing was a fantastic and generous idea, he didn't have the financial strength to keep such a thing going.

Fair enough if you base your opinions on belief but don't be surprised if you are challenged by people like me who try to base their opinions on facts rather than beliefs. If there are no facts available or the facts are disputed I reserve my judgement.

Once again you are making assumptions about Friedels decision making without knowing the facts. I challenge that because I believe it is unfair to cast doubts on peoples behavior without facts. If I was to say for example that you must be pretty lame to be doing a job that's boring, that would be unfair as I don't have any facts about your circumstances.

I suppose we all tend to see posters as being in one camp or the other. I was definitely in the Redknapp out camp and I tend to react to the Redknapp supporters because I think we thoroughly debated the pros and cons and as it's history I think it would be boring and a waste of time to go through all the arguments again which haven't really changed. That however does not mean I am in the pro AVB camp I am just watching tbh to see how it works out. I have not been that impressed so far but think it too early to say.

If we go back to the summer when we had "the checklist" thread, the comments in there over a new keeper were in abundance. We knew that, the club knew that.

For once, we got it right and signed someone in the correct window. (A bit late, but still, better than waiting till jan to end up getting ripped off,or to find out he wasn't available)

Yep, for me the key sgnings were a keeper and two strikers.

Levy left it late, too late we now see, (again) to deliver, but we finally got them.

Unfortunately the keeper has only played one lge ame, and the main striker Ade only started one lge game, while the back up (Dempsey) has been disappointing.
