Agreed Rocky. You played well that day and I didn't think we'd win until we scored, but the reffing was unbelievable after that. Fair's fair though, that was a great win at Bury, especially having been behind. Perhaps, like Brighton and Chesterfield, they'd lost 5% from their game having already won promotion but it was still a great result.

I could almost agree that a 4 point gap would be better for us in a way, except that we need to keep up this good run into the play offs if needs must. Wouldn't want to pass up the chance of getting our own back on you lot next season!
the best result would be one of us go up auto and the other via the play offs then everyones happy:emoticon-0103-cool:

I have never read so much bullshit!
Fans need to realise that it is a seasons worth of decisions that affect their position at the end.
I could go on about how Stevenage should have had players sent off against us or how we weren't given obvious penalties in a few games. If i totted them all up we would have probably been promoted in February with the extra points we would have gained!!!
This is probably equally true for the Shrews so whoever goes up automaticlly will be deserving due to their performance across the whole season....end of!

Agreed 100%.

Oh dear what have I done? Sorry Jenny, that could be grounds for complaint. Could you report the thread to the moderator to test out the system.

I am afraid you miss the gist of the argument here. Refereeing decisions over penalties etc are in essence a matter of opinion. More often than not the referee comes to the correct decision.

Whether a ball is in or out/goal or not SHOULD NOT be an opinion. It is generally black or white. If an official is in doubt he/she should not give a goal. Apart from being short sighted there is every excuse for the officials NOT to give the England goal against West Germany because they could say they were not certain. However, there is no excuse for the linesman to give the Wycombe/Chelsea goal v Tottenham because neither were in a position to be positive.

This makes it all the more galling for Shrewsbury because a season's work probably will hinge on a decision which under no circumstance should have been given in the way that it was.

Decisions are made in games based on opinions, or interpretations, if you'd rather. And yes, over the course of a season these surely do even themselves up. But that 'goal' was FACTUALLY not a goal. You don't form an opinion, or interpretation on something that factually didn't happen.

Now it's these things that do not even themselves up, because we lost out there plain & simple. Even though you may have deserved a share of the points, the fact is you did not score a goal.

How about if a penalty is not given when a player is blatantly tripped in the penalty area? it is a FACT that by the laws of the game that is a foul or an offisde decision goes against you, if its not given you are hard done by and could miss out on a point or 3 points, the law of the game is the whole ball must cross the line, the same applies for both - bad decisions by officials, the point wasnt missed the point made was that yes it should have been given but had we had 1 or 2 of numerous decisons that cost us 3 points this season we would already be promoted!

GET OVER IT! I fully understand that its more than frustrating but there nothing going to be done, its not gonna be changed, points aren't going to be reversed, all you can do is win on Saturday and hope we lose.

Also Kasule i disagree that more often the not the referee comes to the correct decision, the refereeing in this divison has been abysmal all season!

OK, OK Sorry. I will write out 100 lines. "Do not mention the goal". It ain's worth it.

what goal ron it wasnt over the line remember:emoticon-0119-puke:

Glad to see you're catching on Rocky. To be precise, you shouldn't refer to the goal but it's OK to refer to the "goal" or the so-called goal or perhaps even the Wigglesworth/Linington goal, lest we forget the true perpetrators.

We'll get over it Calzy - very quickly if it all goes wrong for you on Saturday!

just to be controversial for a change, the shrews had chances at shots, gulls and at home to ackers. they blew it. i know uncle grahaham and the squad are going flat out for promo but given our missed chances, it may have to be via the playoffs, and when did we last win them. floreat salopia?

The Shrews have had as many bad games as the Wandered by the sounds of Rocky's nail biting every Saturday. Let's just hope we are both in L1 next season.

Your first paragraph rather proves my point. If it is a blatant penalty and the referee does not give it, he can always use the excuse that he did not see it. What he must not do is surmise that it was a penalty and give it when he hasn't seen it.. This is precisely what happened with the linesmen in both the Wycombe and Chelsea games in question.

Admittedly referees have not been great but if you stopped to think about it they still got the vast majority of their decisions correct.

on a serious note we have had some absolutely diabolical refs this season and i can think of ,quite a few games where the refs have cost us points.we should have had 2 penalties on saturday at bury but luckily we didnt need them to win the game<steam>
