So in the parallel universe you have access to where he picked the right ones - what were they and what was the score?
Very amusing, I'm sure. Well, as far as I'm concerned some of them were just blindingly obvious. gallas has played very poorly, yet he persists with him. Is it not obvious that Huddlestone is way off the pace? Yet he persists with him, too. How's that for starters?
I agree with your opinions of the performances of Gallas and Huddlestone. And Walker and Dempsey were pretty dire too. But I don't think we've got anyone obviously better to come in for any of them. Harry had a similar injury crisis when we played City last home ast year and tried to play an attacking team - remember the score. On Saturday we nearly stole a point.
yeah, but that again came down to the fact that we hadn't signed the players we desperately needed, as transfer deadline day was 2 weeks or so later! going into a season unprepared against the title challengers at the time, what could we expect? yes we've got injuries, but we've had injuries for weeks now. the problem is we keep using the same replacements who don't turn up each week!
Harry also had to deal with a player who was throwing his toys out the pram and causing negativity around the place asking for a transfer to one of our most fierce rivals... Doubt that helped with the injury problems we had at the time too.
I've already given one workable answer to the Gallas problem. The other would be Dawson, of course. I agree that Gallas reads the game well. But, that's not much use if you're still too slow to get to the danger. I think Dempsey's big problem is he just doesn't seem to know where he fits in. But, I do wonder if he's really of the required standard. No better than a squad player, for me. I would also have liked to have seen young Carroll given at least half an hour.
Sorry to remind you of the Maribor goal again, but didn't that highlight the real risk there is in playing a right footed RB at LB ??
Good News! M Dembele 1 wk B Assou-Eko'o TBC Y Kaboul 7 wks S Parker 1 wk Accordon to Phsyio room Dembele and Parker back in one week. Huddlestone fit for England but Defoe & Lennon aren't
Not good, but the return of Dembele and Parker should enable us to deal with his loss a little easier. We should string some attacks together for a start.
Assou-Ekotto's massively important, for me. Once he's back and firing, we can switch Vertonghen back into the centre with Caulker and bench Gallas. It would even leave us with a pretty decent back-up defence, bar the left-back slot: Naughton, Dawson, Gallas, ?
His absence has underlined why he is highly rated by many of us. Turning defence into attack is his forte and that we have sorely missed.
I've missed him doing kamikaze Cruyff turns in front of our box when getting closed down by two opposition players. Heart attack inducing stuff, but very funny when it works.
Without trawling back through the news we had a situation last season when Modric was out which I do believe we dealt with better than we are dealing with his loss this season and that was without Dembele. Anyone have any comments on that?
remember it well. we didn't have as many injury problems though, but yet we still moaned that "parker and Sandro don't work".
