I've been so surprised and disappointed at how poor Dempsey has been since signing. When we got him at the last minute, I thought result, although he's nowhere near as technically brilliant as Rafa, I felt we've found a player who plays in a similar role and gets just as many goals. I was so wrong. He's looked so far out of his depth it's scary. Over the years we've had a few players where they've been the best at their respected clubs, yet joined us and looked woeful - Bentley & Pienaar have been two of the recent ones that come to mind and now Dempsey is slowly becomming part of that unwanted clique. Whether I want him sold in Jan is a different matter, the last thing we need at the moment is to deplete our squad when we've got the injuries we have. What I would do though is definitely bench Dempsey from now on. I've made no secret I want a proper 4-4-2 like how we played in against Maribor and with that formaiton, Defoe and Ade are my preferred choice anyway. Though if we're to stick with 4-5-1, then Sigurdsson needs to be given more game time, even though he too has not impressed, Dempsey has had much more time on the pitch and done near enough f*ck all, Sigurdsson at least deserves a couple more games before we can really judge him as to whether he'll also join Dempsey in the "Good at one club, sh*t at another" posse or not.
He was a big fish in a small pond...now he's just ****. Jet lagged and constantly has that look on his face that suggests he needs to stop smoking pot on match days.
Fair enough Bajan, I've seen more than enough to judge him negatively so far, but if you want to wait, that's a decent shout.
I was delighted when we got Dempsey and rated him really highly, but seems like I got this one wrong. Though for scoring the winner at OT, he'll always have a fond place in my heart. Just as JJ does for his many sterling displays for Spurs, but particularly the ones he produced to help us win ENIC's only trophy so far on that magic, memorable cup run in 07/8
I have to say I thought Demps (based on last year) would have been a good addition. Since then, I have began to think more about what I've put in brackets, in the 5 years he was at Fulham his last season was by far and away his best, and has perhaps clouded everyones perception, till then just an average or above average PL player. He cited as one reason to leave Fulham as the desire to play in the CL before he retires to see if he could cut it, i think he may have answered that one himself! Odd that a player is looking to do that at his age, clearly not being good enough in his career up to this point. An inflated opinion of himself perhaps, or is he just a player in a run of dog rough form, it happens.
We are very quick to welcome these players with cries of joy and equally quick to dismiss them as a waste of space. Sigurdson has been disappointing so far but he has little time to adjust in a team that is adjusting itself. Dempsey perhaps less sympathy but still early days for both players. Having said that Verts has shone as well as Dembele, showing perhaps they are the class of player we need. Sigs is young and may develop. Dempsey I fear is on the limit of his abilities.
i've often wondered if there's ****ehawks who sit and watch us chat on here and then use all of our opinions (which are brilliant ones, I must add chaps) to then write articles elsewhere, which are the collective efforts of us lot!!! i've seen about 3 things in there which are pretty much word for word of what a few of us have written in the last 24 hours!! do we have a Dan fitch on this board? if so... own up.. you're stealing the views of all of us and taking the credit!! either that, or our problems really are just that obvious to everyone!!...
Dempsey, despite becoming the scapegoat by a lot of our fans but was one of two players that managed over 80% pass success yesterday with most others in the 60s. Now as much as he didn't have a massive influence on the game at least he wasn't giving the ball away as readily as other players. I think we need him to play more like VDV and I think that would suit his game too especially if we bring back the higher pressing game that we used against Lazio when he played much better than he has in some other games.
