On the ridiculously long trip up to leeds and before the game I got into a debate about watfords very interesting striker issue at the moment. Yet again against leeds (and this is not a moan because it obviously worked) watford completely changed there front line from forestieri and Deeney to Vydra and Geijo. Yet a partnership we have never seen this season is forestieri and Vydra, who, are quite clearly, the best two players watford have. It was clear at the start of the season (pre Deeney) that watford needed a larger striker to hold the ball up such as Deeney and Geijo, however now I feel that maybe it is time that we give the 2 of them a chance up front, just to see what would happen. After all they are such exciting talents, and with talk of them both signing full contracts at watford I fail to believe that either of them are going to be happy with sitting on the bench. Just a thought, does anyone agree?
I would agree. Both are very high quality and have great control. It would be very interesting to see.
Forestieri (we really need a nickname for him) is very skilful.......BUT.......his shooting and finishing is very rusty. So Im with Zola on this one, I also see Fernando as an impact sub.
Is it true that he has only played Forestieri with Deeney and Vydra with Geijo? Maybe only from the starting line ups but not sure if there have been other combinations with subs. I'd like to see all four play one day. Deeney and Geijo up top with FF and MV on the wings. That would be attacking intent. Honestly, I haven't seen any games so it is hard to comment. However, Deeny and or Geijo seem to be bigger and more physical. I know we are palying a passing game but maybe this extra strength compared to the others has influenced Zola to use at least one of them up top combined with another 'lighter' player...
I heard a girl behind me at the Peterborough match saying he looked likz a hobbit, then started calling him Frodo. That's sounds alright
In which case Zola should possibly play FF on the wing and Vydra (who certainly can finish) through the middle
Again, we dont play with wingers, we play a 3-5-2 with wing-backs (The wing backs being Cassetti and Pudil)
I think you need to consider what Forestieri does when not shooting. He is the best player on the ball that we have. He runs through the midfield and defence like a knife through butter. He has flair and is very good technically with his passing too. We keep the ball and create more chances when he's playing. Vydra is our clinical striker.... if you look at his goals this season he's class... if he gets a run of games he could get 20 goals+ for sure. I think we need to have him on the pitch. Geijo is hard to judge because his two starts have been away from home. He seems to do well when he gets time to settle... but as a sub he's not done the business. Deeney does well at keeping possession but unlike last season we're not bundling the ball into the box, he doesn't really do enough to make space for himself and create chances.
Mitch - and it's a system that I have become to really like. With skillful and pacey players it is very exciting...
