Dempsey to QPR (or any other Champions league club that will have him) NOW, before its too late. Get the arrangements done now, so that we are not 'hung out to dry', over him, in the long term.

Did he even kick the ball during the game today ?... I had to check the team list after the game to see if he had 'played' again.

He is turnung out to be yet another inadequate signing., and it is my opinion that he is not Spurs material, or for that matter, not even Premiership material. I have rarely seen him do anything worth-while, and he appears to be lost somewhere between 'not knowing what to do next' and 'bewilderment'.

I know he played for USA lately and has clocked up a few miles on a plane but that excuse was used last week., he really should have recovered from that outing by now. I don't see any signs indicating suitability or that he can become worth hanging on to, for the good of this current Spurs squod.

I would welcome you views on Demsey's performance up'til now...

'Am I wrong in my creticism, at this early stage in the development of the squod and manager or have we bought another 'pig in a poke' ?.
 
I don't think that Dempsey's the major problem, to be honest.
He's not done well, but quite a large number of our players could have that criticism leveled at them.
He doesn't seem at all suited to the role that he's been given, which is odd as I thought he'd thrive in it, but there's not been a lot of service from the middle of the park and he just seems caught between two positions.
He's covering a lot of ground, but not really getting involved in games.

We need to switch to a 4-4-2 and force teams to think about how to deal with our attacking players, rather than the other way round.
The problem with that is our lack of back-up strikers, but that just means that we need to give a chance to a youth player and hope that it works out or that they're not needed.

Trying the American out in a wide role is another consideration, but he's not going to get that opportunity.
Bringing him on when Lennon tires is an option and probably the only one that I'd be considering at the moment. I fully expect him to start our next game, though.
 
There is a danger that Dempsey will become our new Jenas.
 
I think Dempsey is an out and out goal hanger,which can be good!But if you want him as a midfielder or whatever,you are wasting your time!!!!
Tends to get lost like Bent and Defoe.......
 
Difficult to think that Dempsey has become a bad player overnight - or at least over a summer - so you have to have some sympathy for him. And maybe the role that he is being expected to fulfill is just not for him.
Alternatively, maybe all the travelling is taking its toll.

Whatever the reason, he has yet to perform at a decent level for us against a range of opposition. So a change of approach is required - and maybe PNP's sub idea is the answer. If we can solve that conundrum then we can focus on Sigurdsson!!
 
Yes PNP, I'm an advocate of 4: 4: 2 at home or against weeker opposition., however I don't see how going fully 4: 4: 2: in formation would help Dempsey.

I do agree with you thou.. the only alternative seems to be, to bring him on for Lennon late-on in the game. Thats the only way he would get a sniff at playing in a Spurs shirt at the moment, if I were manager.

It wouldn't help Dempsey, but it'd help us! <laugh>
I think he'd probably do ok on the wing in a 4-4-2, especially with Walker providing extra width down that side, but he's at his best in a 4-3-3 and we're not going to play that formation.
 
dempsey is the latest in a long line of scapegoats that some of our fans crave...like jenas, chris armstrong, jason dozzell, paul stewart (until 91), john lacy, ian moore, john pratt etc.

the problem is not dempsey...the problem is no dembele, no parker, no kaboul, no BAE and a manager who has a fetish for making the same sub mistakes.

Jenas made mistakes but he was a key player for us at one point for a 2 or 3 year period... we came 5th in his first 2 seasons with us and was a massive reason why ... his equalising goal at old trafford, his regular goals v the goons, 5th minute of injury time equaliser at the lane, his goal that made it 4-3 in the 4-4 draw at the emerates - his goal in the 1st leg of the 08 semi and his first goal in the 5-1 win in the 2nd leg. His fantastic display in the final v chelsea...yet he is slaughtered...whereas players like Pav, robinson, etc. are feted like heroes when in reality they were way less important and made far more mistakes.

This is a very good synopsis on Janas., and I can't argue with that., however, Dempsey has yet to step up to the plate. His performances todate fall way short IMO.

Dempsey isn't a scapegoat yet RCL - but his performances have not lived up to expectations and there is nothing wrong in highlighting that. At least there is a consensus that maybe AVB ' s tactics may not be assisting him.
 
Dempsey was slow..saw him a few times give up the chase

Brad was stuttering...does not make himself a nuisance in the 6 yard box.

Ade showed what he brings.

We need to play 442 home and away.

Pool played 442 and looked fine.

I'm still prepared to give AVB the benefit of the doubt. His squod has been depleted, with at least 5 first team player out with injuries. We might see better results when some of these players are fully fit to play. I think its a matter of being patient with AVB, he may not be 'everyones cup of tea' but he is very capable.

To cast negative judgement on him (AVB) at this stage would be unfair. We need to see him operate with a near 'fit' full squod before banishing him to the 'gallows' or worst.
 
So, did we save ourselves £6mil, and someone made a good decision, or is it just that Dempsey hasn't quite fitted in to your system yet?
I rate him myself, think he'll get goals for you eventually. How about a swap for Joe Cole? He loves it in London.....<ok>

Bit of both, for me. I'm sure that he's a better player than we've seen so far. Maybe it's the job that AVB is asking him to do. However, yesterday especially, he looked like a spectator - Totally bewildered by everything going on around him. Time will tell. But I'm not sure how much more time we can afford to have him playing like that.

he's been AVB's first choice in light of the injuries. It's just a shame he's still persisting with him. he needed to be dropped about 3 weeks ago for someone else, as he'd had long enough to make a difference back then. here we are another 3 weeks later...and no improvement.

Everything i've seen of Dempsey, he's been a goal hanging type, mopping up 6 yard loose balls and firing/bundling the ball home. The use of him as a link up player is way out of his depth IMO. Even AVB must realise that now, it's so obvious to everyone. - Even this place is full of opinion, but I fail to see 1 person who isn't fed up with this situation.

I just hope AVB has a word with Daniel nice and early, so there's plenty of preparation time in Jan. - We also have to remember that AVB won't be wanting to intentionally upset anyone of he can help it. The end of the J transfer window is weeks and weeks away yet. I for one, expect AVB knows he's got to get gallas' replacement in at the very least.

This pretty much leaves him as an emergency striker or replacement winger. Neither position of which I would feel particularly confident of him fulfilling to the standard we need. if he does end up occupying one of those positions in the future, I don't see that it'll be long before he's replaced. It sounds harsh, but I just can't see him working as a spurs type of player, which is a real shame as he looked like such a promising signing.

Hopefully I'll be proven wrong, but I feel we've got another Pienaar.
