Following on from RBF's thread re: the late Mr Clive Dunn.
As it's a bit quiet on here today and just for a bit of fun, what's your all time favourite British sitcom ?
I have a top ten, so here goes:

1. Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads ?

2. Dad's Army

3. Only Fools And Horses

4. Hi-De-Hi

5. Ever Decreasing Circles

6. Goodnight Sweetheart

7. The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin

8. Blackadder

9. The Good Life

10. One Foot In The Grave

I would have set up a poll, but I'm unsure how to do so <doh>

1 Fawlty Towers

2 Only Fools and Horses

3 Dad's Army

4 Rising Damp

5 Porridge

6 Only when I Laugh

7 Till Death us do Part

8 The Good Life

9 The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin

10 One Foot in the Grave

Oh My God!

Another ****ing thread that I agree with you on KIO! <ok>

The only one that I would add to that list is Yes Minister/Prime Minister

Others to include would be Steptoe & Son and Dear John

Not a sitcom, but not enough people appreciate the brilliance of Monkey Dust

Best sitcom has to be Only Fools and Horses, with special mentions to Blackadder and Rising Damp

The best comedy series are those that are an exageration of real life. Anybody brought up just after the war and hearing the real truth of what really went on could relate to the truthful undertones of Dads Army. Last of the Summer Wine is the same. When you retire who wouldn't like to wander around lovely countryside, nipping in and out of Pubs and getting into a bit of harmless mischief? It rarely happens but us oldies can relate to that. We have all been in premises resembling Faulty Towers, imagined Government to be like Yes Minister, thought that Prison life is like Porridge and met many people like Del Boy etc etc. Too far fetched and it isn't funny. This was the great quality of the Likely Lads - it was so true to life. We all wanted to be a Terry but ended up a Bob married to a Thelma - happy days.

Spot on 1950, that's the main reason it's top of my list. No matter how many times I watch the lads on DVD, I still laugh like a drain everytime. <laugh> The scary thing is those 'lads' must be about 70 now !<yikes>

The common thread running through these great sit-coms is the fantastic writing duo's behind them. Ian Le Frenais and Dick Clement, Galton & Simpson, Croft & Lloyd, Esmonde & Larbey and of course the late great John Sullivan. Out of all the recent comedy series I must admit that I absolutely love The Inbetweeners! Scarily accurate portrail of being a teenager with all the angst to go with it. I also love Miranda absolute genius!
