It IS close. It's just that the statisticians/projections experts are so accurate now (or at least claim to be) that they can still project a close election. It's like saying there is a 92% chance of Saints winning their next game 1-0. 1-0 is still a close game, but there's a 92% chance that is what will happen.

They are saying that Obama has a 92% chance of winning. The margin of victory could be small, and the popular vote is even closer and might even be won by Romney.

The popular vote is the thing that could spoil the party a little bit. If Romney loses the electoral vote but wins the popular vote, the Republicans will be going on and on about it for the next four years, claiming that the majority didn't want Obama.

And yeah that first point is spot on. Obama isn't going to nearly get 92% of the votes, but there's a 92% chance he'll get most of them (according to Nate Silver).

Bush didn't get the popular vote in his second term. Not sure if the Democrats harped on about that though, probably knowing politicians.

He was very unpopular during that term. There's a good reason to harp on about that sort of thing, as it's a case for Proportional Representation. Obviously we had the same thing here with the coalition, and we all know how unpopular that arrangement is.

You have a short memory Gaston! All the Republican Presidents have been far worse than Obama. Nixon, Reagan, the two Bushes!

I saw that. Not sure if anyone else saw the documentary on Sunday night with Andrew Marr, but there were Republicans foaming at the mouth over it. Likening it to a huge step towards communism and a massive step back in evolution?!

Most Americans don't know what communism is, but still believe it's the devil. Check out this ignorant woman:

I do, and a lot of other people as well. This election is important for me and for you as it decides who will be the person in charge of the most powerful country in the world and this in turn will have an affect on our lifes indirectly.

I cared so much I got up an hour earlier today and stood in line (I would say "queued" but I'm being all Americanlike today) to register my opinion on this matter. From the looks of things, the vast majority of you will be pleased I did it. You can thank me later.

I think the world would be a little safer with Obama for another term. That might be a tad harsh on Mit-who I don't know a great deal about....but to me, he could pass for George W's cousin! <yikes>

Romney takes an early lead, but nothing unexpected yet (or so the people on the tele are telling me). The Swing states are all 'too close to call'.

They've just announced obvious states so far. No surprises as of yet, and the only pro-Obama state that has been announced is Vermont.
