Amazing, he managed West Brom, Birmingham, and Aston Villa, the only person to do so. This would not happen nowadays.
One dimensional but a great trainer and motivator. Definitely one of the new breed of managers. His belief was that you must work hard first and then attach the skill. Controversial but certainly worked for teams in the 2nd Division. He promoted three teams from the 2nd Division to the top flight. He also took three clubs to League Cup Finals. He won the old 1st Division with Villa and started a dynasty there. If we hadn't had a knob of a Chairman called Arthur South I'm sure he would have done a brilliant job with us.
His title winning side of 1971-72 was my first full season watching The Canaries. Happy days and Happy Birthday Ron
A grudging Happy Birthday to Ron Saunders. Gutted that his Villa side pipped us to the league Championship eventhough we beat them home and away that season. Hey-Ho!
Our very own Chrissy Hughton would also be if West Brom hadn't been so tight over the Summer. Seeing as Clarke's got them up to fifth, Hughton would probably have them five points clear at the top!
