Why wouldn't it happen, WWOCB? There would be another issue with Curbs coming back. After just one poor result, many fans would be calling for CP to step aside and for Curbs to take his place on the throne. Patience is thin on the ground as it is, let alone when the club's greatest ever manager is lurking in the shadows. It would be horrible for CP.
Perhaps I'm just trying to 'jinx' it I believe Curbs has advised CP in the past, unofficially of course. Would be great if he could take a small role with the club and make it happen on an official basis. I was under the impression that Keith Peacock's role at the club was to advise Chris Powell, and to be the first point of call when advise from a senior head is needed but I haven't heard of that happening too much.
I've only seen him in the warm ups, and not for a while (only seen one game since September) but he seemed to hold himself in a way to me that just gave off arrogance and smuggness. Maybe it's changed or maybe it's just the fact he's a huge 7ft monster (he does look big) but I just thought he looked arrogant as if he knew he was frist team very soon. I'm sure he's a good keeper better keeper then i'd ever be but he just had something about him I didn't like. But if Hamer is playing as badly as some people are saying as much as I like to stick with a keeper give him a chance (Button that is). In an ideal world we'd have Dean Kiely, Bob Bolder and Sam Bartram all fighting for that position (as you can tell i'm a massive Deano fan).
Jimmy Seed built this club the way Shankly built Liverpool and Busby built Man Utd. Had we had imaginative directors we could be ranked beside those two clubs today but the opportunity was frittered away. We had huge crowds and a top team. The other piece of bad luck was that WWII ripped out what would have been five peak years for the team he built. League Runners-Up before the war and two Cup Finals immediately after it (at a time when the FA Cup was as prestigious as the League to the general public, though not to football professionals). But by that time the team had badly aged.
I think we can put the 'Powell out' thing to bed now can't we? I know that one Swallow doesn't make a spring BUT..... come on..... nuff been said already!
Can't argue that the players fought for him after their silly mistakes cost us a 2 goal deficit. Really happy for CP, really hope they can continue to rally round and take the unnecessary pressure off of CP.
I was really flat last night after Cardiff went two goals down from set pieces,which Jackson was culpable.I thought another four or five goal defeat was on the cards.I was sounding off to my friend that Jackson was a waste of space and shouldn't be in the side.As soon as the words came out of my mouth the goalkeeper dropped the ball and Jackson swept it home.Then he popped up to head one home,I then had to eat some humble pie at half time.In the second half we really took the game to Cardiff and they couldn't cope with Haynes pace.Another bit of good fortune from the Stephens free kick and we were all over them.Two good goals from Haynes and Hulse and I thought we would get Six or seven.Then we did a typical Charlton letting them back into the game.Where did the ref get six minutes from.
