    Afternoon all <ok>

Romney for me which I how I voted, just get the feeling that the novelty of they're first black President has worn off and also a lot of US citizens blame him for the economic mess although he inherited a mess from Bush four years ago much like the coalition inheriting a complete ****ing mess from Labour here <doh>

As a Tory I'd would rather see a Republican win which is the American equivalent as opposed to the American Labour equivalent Democrats. <ok>

Hmmm... let's look at some facts.

Obama has apparently "failed to deliver on his promises". Really? Improved health care for most Americans was delivered despite opposition from the rabid right who think our NHS is a "Communist ideal". Unfortunately they took control of Congress and stopped him doing anything else and blocked him at every turn, so any failure is down to them, not him.

On the other hand Romney is a Mormon - a made up religion from the 19th Century that was openly racist until the late 70's when our Mitt was active in the Church. Nobody has asked him about this. How did he make his billions? Easy. Buy up companies, asset-strip them and lay off all the workers. Not an opinion. Fact. He's also got the completely bonkers Evangelicals on his side because of his nutcase running mate and this lot welcome the End of Days because it heralds the Resurrection (apparently) so no prizes for guessing what they want to do about Iran.

And it's a 'close run' election??? Unbelieveable.

Oh and good luck for tonight but not next Saturday. :)

Fair enough Joe but the idea that everyone votes that way is preposterous <doh>

I must admit to being a little surprised that the Christian Right aren't concerned that Romney is a Mormon.

What way? If you mean that people would vote for him simply "for the sake of having a change" then yeah that's preposterous.

Look at the policies, people. If you're not familiar with them then don't ****ing vote.

They're more concerned with Obama being black, socialist and Muslim. They'll consider the Mormon to be the lesser of two evils.

I have a feeling that this thread may be closed sooner rather than later! For the record, Obama.

Why thank you, SA, & love the Bertrand Russel quote, JS. <ok>

On U.S politics, it seems to me that Romney is car-salesman slick. A chameleon who changes his persona to suit the circumstances. He's got his right wing running mate on board to secure the massive Evangelical vote.

On policy - his lack of grasp on foregin policy is frightening. On domestic policy he's a guy who promises jobs but has made a career out of laying people off. Here's someone who opined just last year that Federal aid for disaster hit areas like New Orleans was "morally wrong" and that the individual states themselves should handle it. Federal money influx has changed the face of that City in Obama's tenure, yet it's those Southern saps that will never vote for him.

Yes they really are THAT stupid.

I know very little about American politics. But from what little I've seen/read I'm an Obama man. What has Romney actually got going for him? And why is it so close?

No. No no no no no. Republicans are not the equivalent of our Conservatives. They are far, far more conservative. If I had to equate them with any UK party, it'd be UKIP.

It's not as close as everyone's saying. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that Obama will trounce Romney.
