Dexter...don't belittle New Approach as he was Champion 2 year old and won the Derby..the first horse to do so since Reference Point in 1987 and alongside Frankel and George Washington is the only horse to be Champion 2 year old and Champion 3 year old since Cartier Awards were introduced in 1991 !

He also had to return from injury when 3rd to DOM and won his final race the Champion Stakes in sensational style trouncing Twice Over who won the next two runnings and Sea The Stars would not have got near New Approach that day !

Cartier Awards..hmmm..rivalling only SPOTY in the trinkets of nothingness.

Twice Over was still racing this year as a winless 7-y-o and is a poor tool of calibration.

    As I said...NA is a great...we concur...

Indeed...and he has already sired a Champion unbeaten 2 year old too in Dawn Approach and he hasn't finished winning yet either !

Highest official ratings of recent Derby winners:

    Camelot 124
    Pour Moi ---
    Workforce 128
    Sea The Stars 133
    New Approach 125
    Authorized 128
    Sir Percy 121

Those are the FACTS. Champion 2YO is a meaningless statistic, you only have to look at how few champion 2YOs have gone on to excel in their 3YO careers - the ultimate example being Arazi. At 2 he was a world beater, at 3 a total flop. And what about the great Lammtarra - only ran once as a 2YO, winning the Washington Singer Stakes, yet went on to win the Derby, King George and Arc - the first horse since who? to do that??

New Approach was a good Derby winner but please DO NOT metion him in the same breath as Sea The Stars. 6 consecutive Group 1s from 8F to 12F he proved he was the ultimate in consistency and versatility. His feats will NEVER be matched.

To be fair, it is hard to support the theory that New Approach was a better athlete than Sea The Stars.

I will Ron and with respect to those trying to belittle New Approach ,he was a Champion for 2 seasons not just one and that actually does matter !
Let's see if Sea The Stars produces any horse as good as Dawn Approach has been so far !
Aidan O'Brien is adamant that Camelot is the best he has trained and bearing in mind how close his 4 runners finished behind Sea The Stars in his Derby then we can take the assessment from that Camelot would have beaten him also !

RV...please don't show your ignorance by trying to insult me.

I have merely reiterated what Aidan O'Brien said and he knows better than you or I.

Camelot is far better than anything he trained before were his own words and you have to agree he was more impressive in his 2000 Guineas and Derby wins than Sea the Stars was !

    Erm ............. what?

STS 2000GNS won 1.5 lengths from Delegator (OR 115 for the race) in a time of 1:38.88 on Gd-Fm
Camelot 2000GNS won a neck from French Fifteen (OR 115 for the race) in a time of 1:42.46 on Gd-Sft

    How is Camelot more impressive?

STS Derby won 1.75l from Fame and Glory (OR 122 for the race) in a time of 2:36.74 on Gd
Camelot Derby won 5l from Main Sequence (OR 106 for the race) in a time of 2:33.90 on Gd-Fm

Again how is Camelot more impressive? Camelot beat Main Sequence who is an absolute plodder whereas STS defeated Fame And Glory who went on to be a multiple group 1 winner.

Far more research required....New Approach was Champion 2 year old and Champion 3 year old....HenryThe Navigator was neither and was only effective up to a mile on fast ground and whereas New Approach is the best Jim Bolger has trained until Dawn Approach maybe....HTN is nowhere in the AOB pecking order where Camelot is clearly top...Oddy, AOB knows that Camelot would have stuffed *** far easier than STS did !

It's a need to know basis..and that is all we need to know !

My god Arkle get a grip. STS was never a horse to win by big distances. You are going on like you know Camelot would have beaten STS because O'Brien says he is the best he has had. I am a big O'Brien fan myself but Karl Pilkington created a character I believe he would have a field day with AOB

We'll just have to beg to differ then....Camelot was a better horse than STS as far as I am concerned and went mighty close to winning the Triple Crown and was obviously nowhere near the same horse in the Arc and will be back for a third year at the top of the tree !
