I just don't get the outrage and how EVERYTHING gets cross referenced to Luis Suarez.

 

They charged Suarez after he was asked whether he used the racist term and he admitted that he did. So far Clattenburg has denied it.

Actually isn't it 2 against 1 + possiblt the officials? Both Torres and Mikel heard him, and whoever else may have been in earshot.

It's not about the temerity to answer a question, it's the way in which he answered it. "He can't be guilty because no refs have really been guilty of this before and when I played things were not like this". The flawed logic in saying something like that is what's bothering me, not that he was asked that.

Of course he has the right to support who he wants, but perhaps he should back up his commitment to the Kick It Out campaign and refrain from defending anyone of racism BEFORE the facts are presented. What if it comes out that Clattenburg really did abuse Mikel and Torres? Or does he already have that information somehow?

I also think he should stay out of it. He doesn't have to answer questions, we all know that Fergie won't tolerate things that don't suit him to answer. United are not accused of anything, no one is blaming them for Clattenburg's actions, so his defence of Clattenburg is not needed. All it will do is influence any possible investigation in the future.

 

To be honest, I'm just waiting for the D team to come in and start saying that Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs have beaten up previous girlfriends then i'm out of here.

I've not really taken much notice of this latest mud-slinging spat,- it's dull and predictable- but it does seem a weird thing for a ref to do, especially in the current climate.
As for Fergie's involvement, well, he's one of the biggest names in the game and lazy hacks will always ask him questions because they know it's good copy whatever he says.

What he's said is, imo, not at all different from Liverpool's 'we don't believe Luis Suarez would ever say anything racist, don't you know his granddad is black' statement. He's not commenting on the fact, rather the character of the person being accused, and the character of the refs in general. And saying something is unthinkable doesn't mean it couldn't possibly have happened. It's just that he personally finds it impossible to consider.

No he didn't. He said Dalglish lost his job cos he handled the incident wrong, something Dalglish admitted today. And he never commented on Dalglish's willingness to support his player, only the way in which he went about it.

And after Kuyt and Commoli both made statements to the FA where they stated Suarez told them he said "because you are black" to Evra. So, three men against one then

 

Apparently Torres and Mikel didn't hear him. It was Ramires and Luis who overheard the alleged comment to Mikel, and no one seems sure who heard the alleged comment to Torres (or Mata depending on who you believe). Mikel, Torres and Mata heard nothing, despite being the target of the alleged comments.

Hardly a clear cut case there...

Do you not agree that there is a difference in the way Ferguson has chosen to refuse all possibility that a man he hardly knows (?) would make a racial comment, and his support of a campaign only last week (let alone his comments regarding another manager supporting an accused racist)?

 

The context of the Suarez case was different as it was tied to a difference in cultural understanding of a word. But you're right, it didn't. It also isn't relevant to this case.

To be honest I don't care if Clattenburg did it or not. It sets a dangerous precedent though. Allowing handpicked officials to testify on behalf of their boss, to his boss (who is also their boss) about something that will harm all 3 of them. This way it benefits all 3 of them to just say "nope, didn't do it" and that isn't a fair system because the only person who will walk away damaged from this is Mikel and Chelsea.

Now you're right. This is all assuming he did it, and that's wrong too. But we also can't assume he DIDN'T because they typically don't do that kind of thing. If it's found that he didn't then I support a ban for Mikel and a public apology.

EDIT: Never mind, I didn't realise Mata/Torres whoever dropped their case, and that Mikel didn't actually hear it. Luiz and Ramires then, they should be questioned so 2 vs 4. As long as it's impartial.
