The nomintations for the much coveted Balloon Door are out and to help things along I've highlighted the ones I think are stupid :)

Player nominees: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City/Argentina), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid/Spain), Mario Balotelli (Manchester City/Italy), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid/France), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus/Italy), Sergio Busquets (Barcelona/Spain), Iker Casillas (Real Madrid/Spain), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid/Portugal), Didier Drogba (Shanghai Shenhua/Ivory Coast), Radamel Falcao (Atletico Madrid/Colombia), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris St Germain/Sweden), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona/Spain), Lionel Messi (Barcelona/Argentina), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich/Germany), Neymar (Santos/Brazil), Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid/Germany), Gerard Pique (Barcelona/Spain), Andrea Pirlo (Juventus/Italy), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid/Spain), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United/England), Yaya Toure (Manchester City/Ivory Coast), Robin van Persie (Manchester United/Netherlands), Xavi (Barcelona/Spain)

Coach nominees: Vicente del Bosque (Spain/Spain national team), Roberto Di Matteo (Italy/Chelsea), Alex Ferguson (Scotland/Manchester United), Pep Guardiola (Spain/Barcelona), Jupp Heynckes (Germany/Bayern Munich), Juergen Klopp (Germany/Borussia Dortmund), Joachim Loew (Germany/Germany national team), Roberto Mancini (Italy/Manchester City), Jose Mourinho (Portugal/Real Madrid), Cesare Prandelli (Italy/Italy national team)

Another year sadly goes by where Khumalo's ability goes unnoticed :(

Messi will win it again and probably deserves to.

Some of the nominees are strange though.

Surprised Kagawa didn't get nominated, was absolutely class at Dortmund.

I think Ronaldo deserves to win it overall.

Drogba was a hero for Chelsea in their CL victory.

Aguero's goal to win City the title was amazing.

On those points alone they deserve to be nominated imo.

Drogba beat Barcelona and kept them in the tie against Bayern Munich so that he could then score then decisive penalty and Aguero fired City to their first title in over 40 years. Call me crazy but I think players selected for the best player of the year should have achieved something or at least stood out for some outstanding performances

Why would Fergie be considered? He ran City very close but it was with a team that won the league in the season before, spent a fair amount on strengthening their own squad, that lost a sizable advantage in the run in and floundered in all other competitions. By your own logic Pardew should be up there ahead of Fergie since he won manager of the year ahead of him. Using my logic of the person having to have either achieved something or stood out for outstanding performances, what did he achieve and how many times did Fergie leave us in awe of his brilliance in the last year?

It is so obvious that either Messi or Ronaldo will win it, and so with Messi at 8/11 and Ronaldo at 4/1, surely there's some guaranteed profit in there! The only thing is that when you are dealing with FIFA, you never know.

    Balotelli will probably win it.

**** me you're deluded, even for a Manc.

Did mancini win the league? Please answer Yes or No.

Did the Scottish Alco win the league? Please answer Yes or No.

That should clear up any problem you or anyone else is having understand why Mancini is deserving and Whiskeyface isn't.

    You're welcome.

Yid - I think Messi's 73 goals last season might have something to do with his nomination. I watch Barcelona's matches every week and Messi's contribution ( other than the goals ) is immense - despite all the attempts to hack him down.

Messi without doubt, I watch La Liga when I can, the round up at least, and in Barca's game last weekend I watched Messi notch his 21st! <yikes> hat-trick for them...some players wouldn't mind 21 goals!

A generation one-off that will continue 'earning' awards and records.

Luke - correct me if I'm wrong...United won fuk all last season, not even the Europa League! :D, so how is that simple fact worthy of award?

How on earth has Balotelli got onto that shortlist?

He got sent off about 2/3 times didn't he? And I don't consider his goal record too great either.

Without sounding too biased, Bale and Parker had a better year/ season (not sure how it gets judged) than he did. Unless I've missed him, is Kompany not there either? If not then what a joke. He's been immense for City. David Silva too?! Yet somehow a bit part player from the same club, who hasn't set the world alight, is a nominee?

Yeah it's bizarre and not a single player for Dortmund is deemed worthy despite them doing the domestic double and beating Real Madrid this year. I was considering going into who I think should be there but I really don't know enough about World football. Domestically I'd say Valencia's very unlucky because he's been in great form all year and just because I think he's a superb player I'd have Marcelo in there, although I don't watch much La Liga anymore to know if he's actually been doing well.

Sh*t of course, Dortmund have a quality team. Gotze, Lewandowski, Kagawa (prior to his Utd move), Hummels, Subotic are all quality players who'd be worthy as a nominee.

I'm a fan of Valencia, always puts a great shift in and has a very decent cross. If I'm honest though, I think he still hasn't reached the exact level as he was at when he was playing for Wigan. Maybe that was because he was the big fish at Wigan and therefore was noticed more for his style of play whereas at Utd, he's just another top player and the limelight isn't always on him. Might be being overly critical, either way though quality player.

I think Marcelo's been keeping Coentrao out the team so he must be doing well, baring in mind Mourinho brought Coentrao to Madrid for something like £25m I think. Whenever I've seen him play he's looked good, little aggressive at times but similar to Dani Alves in the way he bombs forward.

surely we cant expect logic and sense from a a bunch of idiots who fine an individual 80,000 euros for showing off his boxers with an advertising logo on it..yet a club harbouring open racism gets fined 40,000 euros....with the main witness being Platini <doh>

Not on those points alone King, surely? If Gareth Barry had happened to have scored the title winning goal would you say he deserved to be on the shortlist?
Aguero should be on the list as he had a good season. Drogba had about 2 good games and shouldn't be on there IMO.
