who would you class as rivals of rovers?

    1) would it be teams directly around us in the table who were competing with? like if we were in a promotion or play off or relegation battle with these teams. would they be our rivals?

    2) would it be teams local to us in our division? so plymouth, exeter, torquay, cheltenham etc etc

    3) same as number 2 but all divisions not just league 2? so 82ers, cardiff, yeovil, swindon as well as plymouth, exeter etc etc.

    4) would it be teams we have history with? like wycombe (lightning <grr>), stockport (waterlogged pitch) etc etc

    5) would it be the next opponent?

    6) would it be a personal reason? shrewsbury be good example after the banter we built up last season on here or maybe another reason.

who would you personally class as our rivals?

Any team we are up against in competition are rivals, then there is local rivals, for me that is Plymouth, Exeter, Torquay, Cheltenham (our league) then Yeovil, Hereford, Swindon, Cardiff & Swansea, and City (who are main rivals quite obviously)
Swansea is a funny one has they are probably around same distance away as the Birmingham teams, and Oxford etc.

I would say the teams below us at the moment more then anyone else, plymouth, exeter, torquay, cheltenham are the closest things to local rivals we have now. In recent seasons I would say for me Bournemouth our number 1 boogie team  oh and don't forget Notts County which I think started (correct me if im wrong ) when they scored from a throwing when really they should off threw the ball back to us after one of our players got injured.

Our rivals are the **** and thats it. I love it when Swindon seem to think they are rivals with us. They are ****s and dirty inbreds, just like the **** :) but they are not THE **** and not from Bristol so therefore IMO not our rivals but I do have a passionate dislike for Swindle. Only rivals are city. Don't really care much for Yeovile or Cheltenham. Even Cardiff I don't class as rivals, except England Vs Wales as they are fecking foreign.

Stockport and Notts County are just teams we have had a funny five mins with, like Yeovile and Aston Villa (<laugh>) are not rivals with us and never will be lol Far too good to get anywhere near em. Plus, our cup game went by without any problems didn't it? unless I fell asleep before it all kicked off

I agree with Chris. The she teds are our only rivals, and we are theirs, even though they sometimes like to think otherwise.

The Villa rivalry came from the late sixties and seventies, when we were both battling at the top of the old third division. They always brought loads to Eastville, and on more than one occasion, the Tote had a really good go at taking the Holt End, which was by far the largest in the country back then.

Some of the older lads still dislike Villa for that reason, but it's a long time ago now.

would we like a rival watch thread? similar to this.....

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/163777-Rival-Watch

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/112743-Rival-watch

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/164868-Rival-watch

    you get the picture :)

basically, our own rival watch thread and be sticky at the top of our board with the other sticky threads.

    could use it for:
banter with all our rivals (whoever you all class as your personal rivals)
use it to laugh at citys going down
discuss other rivals like our league rivals maybe teams around us to keep a check on their progress
a way to mock rocky and AJ from wickham/strawberry town with there expected relegation battles <laugh>
    etc etc

this is NOT to replace banter between us all in other threads before anyone worries (chris ;))

a lot of good threads do get ruined by unnecessary banter where the same banter is being repeated in several threads. im to blame for this myself. maybe we could try a rival watch thread which would reduce good topics losing the point and theme of the thread to banter. so we have more for everyone, those who want banter and those who rather have less banter. im trying to accommodate for everyone.

    opinions???

Agree with Chris, Pure and Stollie, the **** will always be our rivals. I'm old school enough to have been at many derby games, in fact my 1st ever game when I was a young kid was at Eastville against the **** in 1980 ended 0-0 and we both went down that season. Come to think of it the **** went down the following season too and went bust to boot <laugh>

to be fair, i been as bad as you <laugh> how many threads have you and me on the OS forum been ruined by our banter <laugh>

i wasnt having ago at you mate <ok> usually is a red who starts and we like to give it back. think we need to learn to let some go over our head and save it for other threads. however i will do my best to stick to this myself <laugh> and i will try and get threads back on track if they go off the wrong direction due to a dirty red <grr>
