What are your feelings on him now that the season is underway? From what I've seen he is playeing better but still nowhere near the player he was. Found this from Zola. Do you lot still think he's worth sticking with or would you drop him in a heartbeat if Falcao was an option?
Falcao is not an option for me... Waaay too expensive and i am sick to the back teeth of buying players and screwing our evolving youth over. Torres doesnt love liverpool, way your fans treated him i would be surprised if he doesnt have a lot of the opposite of love for you. Torres has openly said how thankful he is from the support he has had from chelsea fans, goodness knows he does not deserve it or done anything to warrant it. a £50mil striker should be popping goals away for fun, and not have to rely on service (such a sad case argument) as it stands, Hazard and Mata put goals on plates for people. The only thing thats going for him is his (normally) fantastic work rate. But he needs to start scoring or he will find himself on the bench now Studge is fit. So in short, no i wouldnt drop him in a heartbeat unless falcao was actually buyable at a decent price. Which is not going to happen. We have a 4 goals per game midfield with Lukakau and Studge to play off them. Lukaku is the next/new target man for our team, he will be stonking next season.
It is not a "sad case argument " to state Torres doesn't get service, it is a hard case fact. Torres is not quick enough to play the Mata Hazard style. He needs balls to run onto at pace, and gets none from our midfield. Don't confuse Mata, Hazard, Oscar or Ramires as the type to grab hold of the ball and distribute it around as did Zinadane, Cruyff, Iniesta, or closer to home, Xavi, Hoddle, Brooking ,Ardilles. That's what Torres thrives on. We will score heaps of goals with our buzzy midfielders, but lack a controlling midfielder, which is the key to Torres. Personally, I would drop him and play to our strengths, rather than starve him and make him the scapegoat. Sturridge is no superstar either, and we are well short of strikers. Lukaku is unproven, but promising, but would you put all your eggs in his basket ??????
Falcao is only an option if it involved a swap deal with Torres as he is far too expensive otherwise for what is a player who at 26 (?) wont have any sell on value and you'll get 5 years max at the very top. If and only if we buy a striker, Neymar would be my choice. Very young but already a world class star IMO and would fit in well with our brazilian contingent. However my view at the moment is we stick with Torres and Sturridge this year and re-evaluate in the summer. We may need a cheap option in January just for options but not another 50 million pound player.
You're the moron. Show us a picture of him getting stick like that whilst in a Chelsea shirt and you'd have a point. Massive doh!!
I would agree with Chelsea Pensioner and drop him, but who do you play instead? Lukaku is doing ok but has plenty to learn according to my Father in Law who watches WBA on a regular basis and Sturridge seems to be similar in that he is promising but also needs to improve. I thought Zolas comments interesting as there are some (not me) who would have him back at Liverpool, does he think it was a mistake leaving? I doubt it myself.
Im sorry i see where your coming from, but i cant help but disagree. Last two games ive seen he has been gifted goal scoring opportunities by mata/hazard. SO thats factual as its on the big screen. Fact is before Torres came to chelsea he could single handed destroy a team, and he did that to us. So any striker that has to rely on only "service" to score, is not worth jack in my opinion. I am not trying to attack your point however it sounds :/ I agree with your second point though, Studge could do no worse (although torres has scored 4 in the PL and our top scorer in the PL?) so its not the worst. Lukaku is unproven but i think he will be a really good player. West brom will gel im into the PL and he is only 18/19? As for the picture, its not even relevant, Thats probably the game torres made us look like a championship team. I like the fact that Chelsea supporters are always fully behind their team and players, we couldnt care less about rival players (which he clearly was in that photo).
Torres was never that good at Liverpool. He had one good season 30 goals plus and that was it. He is a pretty boy who sells lots of shirts but otherwise Is not that good. Look how poor relatively he goals record is for Spain, who score 30 goals every qualification group. The scouse press hyped one good game v vidic. Overrated
I would disagree there, having watched him play week after week he was not overrated, when on form he was unplayable and could score any type of goal. I still think that he has a mental problem with the injury he sustained, he was lightning quick but now he seems to hold back, lots of players lose pace after injury but not to his degree.
Don't really agree with that TBH. He was amazing at Liverpool and I saw him mature at Atletico as well, where he was also top class. He was rapid fast and a great finisher. Not sure what has happened. You can see he has ability but something isn't right. I don't buy into this we don't have the right midfield nonsense. He has struggled for Spain too and they have the best midfield in a generation. Plus whilst you have to play to players strengths, is Torres useless unless Alonso or Xavi are in the team? My biggest probelm generally is that when we play well so does Torres (mainly) but he never takes a game by the scruff of the neck when we are struggling in the way Rooney, RVP, Aguero, Drogba, Tevez have all done with regularity over the last few years. For 50 million, that's what I'd expect once in a while. No good getting a hat trick in a 6-0 win if you ain't getting the crucial goal in a 1-0 against a top side etc.
He is like a see saw, one minute high next low to extremes. My theory is he has a twin brother and hasn't told anyone. I thought Drogba was his problem then when he left I had high hopes from Torres, for a while I was impressed and loved to see him like a ferret chasing all over determined to get the ball. Now its stopped again. Its not even the getting of goals for me it is just as much the effort he puts in. I just hope the right twin turns up this weekend.
He only ever played well at Liverpool when gerrard alonso and masch were dominating the midfield. He was a very good striker for a couple of seasons but never in roon villa or drog's league
Fundamental fact about Torres - He was NEVER a complete striker and never will be. Torres relied on pace and tricks, and now pace has gone. He has never had a long shot, never had a desire to score (please try and defend the complete lack of penalties taken by him), and it's not his movement that made him good it was his pace. Incidentally, he's never been a world class finisher, he just used pace to pretty much get into a position to tap the ball in. In fairness, he does have a good passing and crossing range now, but that's not what we want, he's a striker. However, despite his flaws, he has been a fundamental player in many of our victories this term, especially at the start of the season. The arsenal game was particularly impressive. He's not the player everyone expects him to be, but I do think slamming his desire and commitment is unfair. He may look sulky but I do think he gives 100% (though dependable on how the team is playing, like any player), and for a player that was bought for a around £30m more than he was ever worth, it's not going to be easy.
He was a brilliant finisher and could score from distance and with his head so I don't know wher you are getting that from? I agree that he did rely on pace to some degree but at his peak he was one of the best in the world. The only question is what has gone wrong? No one seems to know.
He played better when Gerrard was playing as a deep striker with him, which again makes me wonder why he isn't playing well with Mata.
I wouldn't say he isn't playing well with Mata. His general play is good. I think what is frustrating most of us is his lack of a killer instinct in front of goal. The amount of times he has been put in and he fails to get a shot off is not what you expect from someone of his talent. Players will miss chances but he should have really scored another 3-4 goals this year already and that will cost us in the long run.
