I'd have preferred we'd have bought him and Damiao. Well Chelsea escaped a hiding thanks to Cech but have still to go to Juve who hardly shone tonight. Close stuff all this. Well done Utd.

Gutting for them, they've really impressed in the CL so far though, hope they can get through the group.

I've just seen Utd's goals on the box and oh what scrappy affairs the first two were. I also saw the highlights of Chelsea's match and two of Cech's so called excellent saves were straight at him. That it was only 2-1 should be encouraging for them though.

Not if the goalkeeper is doing his job they're not Yid. It's only luck as you know if they get deflections, offsides and non penalties, woodwork etc as they've had much of.

Nice to see C18fc go down to SD, even with their "inspirational" captain...

" Shakhtar were tremendous throughout, shredding the Chelsea defence time and again - they pressed and ran, created and scored. The intensity of their football was embodied by the magnificent Willian, who only added to his burgeoning reputation with this dynamic display.

The Brazilian played with pace and intelligence, attacked with gusto and controlled the play with his trickery and precise passing. On three occasions he created shooting opportunities, with a drop of the shoulder and twinkle of the toes. He created openings too, feeding Darijo Srna whose goal-bound shot was blocked by Terry."

...apart from the last bit, a thoroughly good read. :)

I'm trying to figure out where he plays. It looked like he was playing on the left and cutting in. I saw him listed somewhere as a striker, which is not where he was in the Chelsea game. One thing he's not is a CAM, I think. But he looks like one of those players good enough to improve just about anyone.

What an absolute disaster for English teams in the CL but also perhaps shows how overrated the PL is in terms of quality (as I've always said personally).

In a group of Champions City don't measure up. And we look fairly ordinary against the Dutch, Italian and even Danish Champions.

I can't see an English team getting beyond the 1/4's if I'm being honest. Not on current showing. Arsenal, Chelsea and United should get out the group but City are as good as out.

1st is firmly in Schalke's hands now having won at the Emirates and still having to play them in Schalke (which in all likelihood they will win), therefore Arsenal drawing Real, Barca, Bayern or even PSG is likely. We really need to get 1st in our group!

Yes it was a disaster but English teams can't win it every year. Re your comments about quality and the PL District,if you think about it there are more teams of quality in the PL than in the other leagues. Take Ajax and maybe Feyenoord out of Holland and who's left? Same a bit with Italy with Inter etc. Spain have Real and Barca with maybe Atletico and nothing much more. Bayern are dominating Germany being 12 points clear. We have more competition for the top teams in the PL.

What now for City? Will Mancini now move on paving the way for Pep?

For me there are only 6 quality teams in the PL: City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton.

I think any Spanish or German team in the top half of their respective leagues could quite comfortably beat our top 6. Bilbao (midtable Spain) last year comfortably beat and outplayed (home and away) the team that basically came joint 1st (on points) in our league. Atletico Madrid - the team who spanked Chelsea in the Super Cup -didn't even qualify for the CL. That's a scary thought. The likes of Llorente, Soldado, Falcao and co not even in the CL and our clubs are lining up with the likes of Gervinho, Podolski, Carrick, Sturridge and Jonny Evans.

German Football is absolute quality. They have about 8 teams of genuine Champions League quality. In Holland they have Twente, Ajax, PSV and Feynoord who are all fairly evenly matched and win 6-4 and 7-4 every week and mad scorelines like that.

Our league is much weaker, but it makes it far more entertaining which is fine by me. The transition to a more technical style of play in the PL will take time, we are years behind other nations so I don't expect to see another English team win it for a good 4-5 years to be honest, especially with clubs trying to cut costs etc.

Same, forget Barca tippy tappy. Dortmund are the best team to watch and have been for 2-3 years. Any true football fan that doesn't buy Sky and the media's BS knows this <ok>
