Did anybody see Dermot Gallagher on Sky earlier today?

He said that just as u21 players are learning about international matches, so are the referees in these matches.
This kind of thing should have been predicted and maybe a stronger experienced ref could have been appointed.
He also said, that he could quite understand if a national team took it's players off hte pitch and walked off, because things were getting that bad.

I can't helo thinking that if missiles were being thrown onto the pitch in a league game, the referee would stop the game because he has a responsibility to the safety of the players.

Is it different in internationals, or are the refs to scared at missing out on extra money and prestige? Just a thought.
 
I can't believe uefa have charged England what a ****in joke of old boy network ****wits of the highest order

Please can you tell me what is wrong about what I am saying? To repeat myself yet again: Rose should not have lost his self-control in the way he did. That's all I am saying, nothing more. The only thing you lot are saying in reply is that you understand him losing self-control in the circumstances. OK, you seem to think that provocation makes something that's otherwise wrong, right. I just disagree that's all. End of. <ok>
 
To side with robbie, just briefly, Rose said he lost concentration after 60 minutes so he maybe should have been subbed.

But with the sustained racism he was under it is perfectly understandable that he reacted. His reaction wasn't even that bad. Kicking a ball is no where near as bad as if he was to yell at someone hit them. Which he didn't do.

But unless you stand up to these small minded bigots nothing will be done! lets put it like this Robbie, if you took your kids to a game and a group of fans started shouting abuse them, would you just 'turn the other cheek' and not react?

I'm not surprised the FA has been charged, they have to be because its all part of the investigation into what happened, its whether they are found guilty is the more important point, which in a normal court of law would be a given, but this platini's mob we are talking about and i can see us getting a larger fine than the serbs!

totally disagree, that way you are pandering to the bigots and rose would have been subbed just for the colour of his skin.

If he has lost concentration, then he can not do his job to the best of his ability and should have been subbed. he would have been subbed for footballing reasons, and not pandering to the racist bigots.

Why he lost his concentration is not a football matter. The fact the he did and then could not perform is a football matter.

No, looking back at it, it wasn't the wisest thing to do, kicking the ball in the crowd, but I can understand it. That however, was not a red card offence.

Perhaps the English team should have walked off, citing safety reasons for their walk off.

Unfortunately, I can see a 'It's part of their culture, let's try and be understanding' attitude coming from Fifa/Uefa.

I can see where you are coming from Maestro, but then should we go to places like that thinking we can't pick black footballers because of the treatment they will receive. if we start doing that the bigots have won.
 
While I agree that it is 'pandering to the bigots' by subbing him, if he is not performing as well as he should be then subbed, it would also prevent the possibility of Rose reacting. But also subbing him would've have possibly helped to stop the abuse.

(My phone likes changing Rose to Rosé so apologies if it looks like I'm talking about wine! <laugh>)
 
what SHOULD have happened, is the england representatives - the players, the manager, the coaching staff should have walked off the pitch when the racist abuse started. it shouldn't have come to this but its time people TAKE ACTION THEMSELVES to highlight the issue. i know its going to be a difficult decision to make but i really think it will need a team to walk off and refuse to play for anything to be done. had the england players refused to play, it sends out a far more powerful image to the powers that be that THERE IS a problem they need to tackle.

You have to believe that the players were talking to each other during the game and indeed at half time as a group with all the management team.
Were the Stasi, sorry, Serbian police alerted to the matter? If the Serbian officials were informed, why did we come out for the 2nd half if they were not going to do anything? If missiles are going to be thrown then that makes it dangerous. Far more serious than racist comments actually. Never mind what UEFA or FIFA say. Do we need all this aggravation? Typical British attitude. Stiff upper lip chaps, Public School attitude that taking it up the arse is compulsory. Shout, scream, walk off, kick their diplomats out. Whatever. Stop giving in to them.

This about hits the nail on the head; so we, as a multi cultural nation, can't pick Black, Brown, Asian, Far Eastern looking players who through birth are English, to play football for our country in certain parts of the world because they will be racically abused and may react to that abuse! If we as a nation sanction substution of a player because of abuse he or she is receiving in any form is wrong and the people in charge should take the whole TEAM off the field of play. It means the racist's have got their way!!
To try to place any blame on Danny Rose is quite frankly stupid in the extreme, only he knows the effect it had on him, I can't begin to imagine how he felt, he has my wholehearted sympathy and support from one Englishman to another!
 
by taking the entire team off the field of play, the racists may feel they win, but they won't win if it means that a) they've paid money but see no football and b) their nation gets thrown out of competitive football for 12, 24, 36 months, whatever. the main issue here is that fifa and uefa don't take racism seriously, therefore their punishments are inadequate. if they see the credibility of the game tarnished by teams simply refusing to take part, they might, MIGHT, start to take it seriously. got to start somewhere, and by refusing to play, it makes a bigger stand than just moaning afterwards about it.
 
While I agree with what you are saying, ILD and Guru, that taking the black player off the pitch because the black player is losing concentration isn't the way to deal with it - which wasn't my point. Players of ethnic minorities have the same rights as anyone else. I'm just saying that in that particular match Rose should've been subbed. It certainly can't be allowed that he was made to feel the way he did and taking a player off when they are distracted by racist abuse isn't the answer I just feel it should have been done the other night. As supers says a way of dealing with it and really giving a message that what is happening isn't right is for the team to refuse to play. That way the abuse can't continue and the fans and opposition team learn that they can't watch the game or play until the abuse is stopped.

I know you didn't mean it that way wonky but that statement has invaded peoples consciences as "I'm not a racist because I feel these people have the same rights as anyone else", as if that was ever in dispute. Its like a second division for racists.
 
Looks like Fifa are already trying to brush it under the carpet. Absolutely nothing about it on their regular e-mail newsletter. Whats the betting on a small fine and a minor slap on the wrists for the Serbian FA.
