The way I look at Bale is that he dives right now. Which I'm not happy about, as I would like to think that we have a culture at Spurs of winning within the rules of the game. However I think I can see why he feels the need to do so, as he's had some fairly bad treatment over the last few years (Adam has been singled out on this thread but he's not the only one) that has gone unpunished by referees. So while I don't condone his behaviour I can see why he feels the need to do it, as he clearly thinks that he is not getting enough protection from bad treatment from poor officials.

I'm basing that on the fact that nealry every quote I've heard about his character has been positive, and because to my knowledge he hasn't had any major on/off field incidents that would suggest bad character. As opposed to someone like Suarez who had a pretty bad reputation (deserved mostly I would say), and as such gets a lot of stick for diving.

Don't get me wrong I'm not condoning Bale's behaviour, but I can understand why he does it. That doesn't excuse it or make it right however.

December 2007 ... Spurs v Birmingham at WHL...(2 months before the brum player nearly crippled eduardo) Bale was tackled off the pitch well after the ball had gone. He was 17 yrs old...he'd already scored 2 or 3 goals for us from left back in his first 3 months at the club. He spent the next 4 months in plaster and is out of football until the following September. He missed the Carling cup fina win v chelsea as a result.
He comes back and everyone concerntrates on his poor form and he is almost loaned out to a league 1 club.

Eventually gets back in the team and is moved up to winger and his career gets back on track.

April 2011...Spurs v Blackpool ... Charlie adams almost breaks his league...carried off and is out of action for 3 months.

one of the reason's Bale end's up on the ground,is he see's the tackle coming,so he jumps to hurdle it.If you are running the speed he does,it's hard to stay upright when you land,so he goes over and people think he's dived,if that's the case, how come he doesn't appeal, the only time i see him do that is when he is caught by the other player

As far as I am concerned,Man U invented the chopper.
I can still see Dave Mackay being carried off with a broken leg at Old Trafford in a European Cup Winners tie.
Thank you Noel Cantwell......and remember who was manager.Busby.....and he had a nasty piece of work, among others, playing for him by the name of Norbert Stiles....and it's carried on to this day!

They also had Johnny Giles who to this day remains one of the dirtiest players I have ever seen. He was putting the boot in for Man Utd long before he went and did the same at Leeds.

Yes, it was. The break was so bad it was considered a miracle that he made his comeback only 9 months later.

August 2012. Goes down on a horror tackle from Charlie Adam. Again. But it's only a strain. Gets pilloried for skipping international duty.

PNP's makes an excellent point. He seems like a genuinely decent human being. He's a brilliant footballer. He's had two severe injuries and has come close to literally dozens of others (at age 23). No one in football may get the knocks he does (as the most dangerous fast player in the roughest league). He's had three really blatant dives, which he got severe criticism for. Maybe the connecting thread is that all the fouling is pushing him over the edge a bit.

I can remember Dave making a comeback after the first break.
We were at West Ham getting well beat 4-0 that day when the news came through that Mackay had broken his leg again in a reserve game.Talk about one heck of a day!!!!!
That on top of John White...........anyway,he did come back again to captain the side to a cupfinal win against Chelsea at Wembley before winning further honours at Derby(everyone thinking he would be finished at Derby! Some hopes.....)

time and again Bale has been kicked and fouled, I don't blame him for 'going down easily' and trying to prolong his career.

the foulers are the cheats, and hi Smithy, I vividly rember poor old Dave Mackay having his leg broken at OT. No subs in those days, utd beat us with ten men, a classic case of cheating. we would have beaten them without the intervention of Noel ****well, as Mackay called him from that day onward.

Adam is a thug..end of. He tried to cripple Bale when he was with Blackpool, and then tried again with Liverpool. When it comes to malicious intent to cause serious injury, there are thankfully very few like him playing in the Premiership.

You should take a look at Adams latest tv interview, he was asked about Bale. With a clear smug smirk as a facial expression, he said "what happened in the past, stays in the past". If they were just poorly timed challenges he wasn't proud of, he had every opportunity to say so. He then went on to add about the importance of "stopping" (thats one way of describing it!) Bale in a game. Remorseless and unapologetic is what you get from his response.

We don't normally have players with what's essentially a poor version of a nemesis.
I wonder if Adams is going to kidnap Bale today, take him back to his dubious lair, intimidate him with his henchmen (Huth & Agger), tell him his whole plan and then accidentally let him go free?

Bale ran across the scot defender and it looks like his right foot touches the the defenders knee which causes him to trip himself up ...penalty? probably no....dive definately no.

Eh? Like remembercolinlee, I do not think it was a pen but it's definitely not a dive. Tripped himself.
