So you weren't deliberately taking what HBIC said out of context? You actually believe that rubbish.

South Yorkshire Police weren't responisble for the cover up, a select few high ranking police officers were, none of which still work for them. You wouldn't work for them because of the cover up by certain officers and general ineptitude of certain officers and Del Piero doesn't want to play for you in part because of the disaster at Heysel which was caused by Liverpool hooligans. Like it or not, fans represent your club and that's why when fans do stupid things the club are punished.

Calling him names is nothing more than your usual petty reaction to anything that embarrasses Liverpool.

Edit: Okay I'm done, PNP :)

I think Davidako does have a point though. First ADP says he was too deep in talks with Sydney and then he says he wouldn't play for Lliverpool because...... I can't imagine him thinking "oh yeah, that would be a good move, maybe i'll go there etc." and then 2 days later thinking "oh heck, what about 1985?" Unfortunately, and this is NOT a dig at Liverpool, I suspect he's making comments to try and keep the adoring masses on side.

Another deluded Mouser coming out trying to defend the indefensible. Any body with half a brain cell can see Suarez dives / over reacts every single time he is tackled (fairly or unfairly)

The match commander was called Duckenfield - a South Yorkshire police officer. When the media first reached Hillsborough, he was asked how the fans had got into the pens. The truth was that, on appeal, he had allowed the tunnel to be opened. He told the media, on the spur of the moment, that fans had broken the doors down (that in reality the police had opened). He then briefed officers.

It was his initial lie - which he later admitted to - which sparked the media coverage of Hillsborough. Officers from the SYP were told not to use their notebooks (accountable documents) and place their thoughts of the day into a separate statement. These statements were then used in the inquests after being edited thoroughly by the SYP legal department.

Later, during a private prosecution against the match commander and his deputy that day - a man called Murray - their legal fees were paid for by the SYP.

From top to bottom, the SYP were involved in a cover up to protect the match commander - a middle man in terms of position.

But anyway, I know you didn't mean anything by it.

Can't disagree with any of that - but it doesn't detract form the fact that Steven Gerard looks like one of the cast from Alvin and the chipmunks - come on FFS - lighten it up again!

Sorry mate... was reading a book by one of the panel's researchers (one of my lecturers) so it's all fresh in my head still!

I'd turn for Stevie. So what?

Fair dos. I 'll score a point out of Liverpool over pretty much anything but for any football fan who watched games in those days that one is way too close to comfort - and that's without all the other stuff we now know.

I don't really buy the Del Pierro thing at all by the way. It's all agent talk. They may, just possibly, have made a discreet enquiry but he was even being linked to Watford - him and every Italian over 30 from Felippo Inzaghi to Sofia loren and the Cardianal of Florence <doh>.

I think people miss that all football clubs make tonnes of enquiries about players every window - we only hear a couple of the newsworthy ones.

I imagine Del Piero wants a comfy life in a nice warm country where he's well respected and idolised. Coming to England would be a big challenge - why should he want to?

If he's written them down already, then how can anyone make sure that they're not one of the names in the envelope?
    What a twat.

I thought that. It's clearly just a mind-game though. I imagine a lot of coaches do it.

Also, what a poor article from the Telegraph. No analysis or interpretative thought; just lazy journalism.

Surely the point of any motivational tool would be to rally the team and improve morale though, not to make you think "this guy's a ****ing clown"?
If we all saw straight through it, then I'm sure a number of the Liverpool players did, too.

The idea, I'd imagine, is that those that think they might be in the envelope will want to prove they shouldn't be in there. It also gets players reflecting on their own performances.

Three things that let LOLerpool down: The Past, The Present, The Future.

The past because their fans are more interested in that than the present.
The present as their fans think they're better than they actually are.
The future as sooner rather than later a generation knowing nothing but Liverpool failure will replace them.
