Both signed new deals today along with Chuck. Excellent news. http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=3177
These are the guys we need on long-term contracts. Both of them are the right age and amount of talent to perform for us at any level and also be able to command a decent fee if we had to sell either of them.
That is excellent news. I did worry that the team could break up in January and next summer with a few bids coming in but it looks like we're trying to get as many of our stars as possible tied down to long deals. Of course, that means if a McGeady-like bid was to come in for Forrest or Hooper, for example, it would be excellent business.
I sometimes forget but Matthews is still only 20. Great news that we've got these two tied down for the forseeable. Being so young I don't think either should be in a massive rush to leave but we should get quite decent transfer fees as and when they do eventually move on.
As a Celtic fan I never contemplate any top players leaving. I would be happy for them all to give us top service until they are in their thirties. However as it appeared to be the case with Ki he wanted to move, so he is gone but I wonder is he any happier? This talk of players leaving in the next transfer window is sooooooooooo boring. Always posted rarely happens.
I'm not sure Peter Lawwell would agree with you. Mind you, Rangers did turn down a bid of £9m for Jelavic (I almost managed to type that without laughing!)
Thing is, where for Mathews now? Lustig is proving pretty valuable as well. I doubt if Lennon will just drop him out the team. Good to have both, though but there's competition on that side of the field. As usual, for us, not in the LB position.
New contracts just mean happier players and whoever wants them will have to pay through the nose
