Finally a bit of sense.

Yes the Billy Boys, a classic anthem of Rangers is set to return with a slight change of words.

The anthem that has been replicated the world over, but coming nowhere close to the Rangers original that rocked stadiums and made struck fear into the hearts of opposing players.

Any ideas who's blood we can be knee high in?

Trev, you know it wasn't banned because of the word Fenian - it's ridiculous how many people trot that **** out then belt out "Super Rangers".

It did lead to one Channel 4 mini-documentary labelling you all "racist scum", though (aff a Scouser anaw) <laugh>

It just bewilders me how many people that grew up singing it don't actually know what it's about.

Both Glasgow teams have an issue with people singing songs about stuff they know nothing about out of tribalism.

If you know the history of Fullerton's Billy Boys and wish to continue singing it, you are a fascist.

It's amazing because its known that the IRA did run operations in glasgow during the fullerton era.

Yet yous sing about the IRA.

This is one of these yous are ****s but aye so are yous threads.

Were these operations run by the Lithuanians, Poles and Armenian immigrants his group killed?

Does that change his membership of the British Fascisti, British Union of Fascists (blackshirts), or the fact that they opened the only KKK premises in Scotland?

...or that he received a medal for his "work" breaking strikes during the General Strike?

Going around killing scots (even prison guards) for ZE CAUSE is ok.

Going around killing others for THE CAUSE isn't ok?

You are trying to tell me there is a difference in idiocy here and the only idiocy I see is you trying to claim one group is worse than the other.

I'm not sure how to answer this MD. This has very quickly been dragged into whitabootery on a grand and bizarre scale.

Firstly, I'd go back to your early assertion about IRA activity in Glasgow in the 20s.

Other than the "breaking of the van" I don't know of any - there well could be loads but the ultimate "whitaboot" to that is "are you telling me that Scots weren't involved in atrocity after atrocity in Ireland?" but I'm not even going down that route.

Are you excusing singing a song about Blackshirts by suggesting that there were IRA incidents in Glasgow in the 20s?

...and Do you believe that all participants in conflict are equal and do you believe that this would be a valid excuse for a German to sing about the 40s Wehrmacht (for example)?

I've now indulged (a wee bit) in the whitabootery <shame>
 
The Billy Boys is not a reference to Fullertons group. It is to mean the Rangers support. Up to our knees in blood is not to be taken literally, we do not intend to murder or even harm people.

Didn't the term tim come from a violent Irish street gang in Glasgow?

It's a class tune and it scares the **** out of opponents when we sing it.

Just for the record we will be up to our knees in mud, not blood ;)

That's a lie.

Why is Bridgeton mentioned in the song if it doesn't refer to the Bridgeton Billy Boys?

The term Tim (from TimMalloys) was (as most nicknames in football are) originally a term of abuse that was "claimed back" if you like - likening all Celtic fans to a violent Catholic gang in Glasgow.

I think, in order for you to be able to sing it without it being a paeon to ethnic violence, you don't need to remove the Fenian bit or the blood bit but the Bridgeton bit.

This is easily the worst thread on these boards for ages.

I wish I'd never commented on it.

Like I said the lyrics will be changed a little but the main part of it, will stay the same.
