A thread for this specific game, rather than the general Europa League.

They played for both: Helder Postiga (see Spurcat below and corrected by Boss)
Previous Games: None

The news conference is going on now, Clint has been put up first.

Clint Dempsey said:
First from @clint_dempsey "Everyone is excited (after the #MUFC result) we are on a good run of form. We want to keep it going."
"We want to go as far as we can and take every fans (sic) as it comes. We want to do well in every competition"
"Lot of quality in this team. You have to work hard and take chances when you get minutes in the team."

Nothing startling said so far!

American athletes are actually trained to say f-all in interviews. Makes for boring reading, but the alternative is often worse. Just tick off a list of cliches, kind of like English football commentators.

They played for both: Probably none?
Previous Games: No idea

I never realised how much research went into writing these items <laugh>

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Panathinaikos have only tasted victory against English opposition once, with that win coming against Arsenal in 2001 in the group stages of the Champions League.
  • The Greeks have not scored in their last three European games, but have not conceded a goal at home in Europe this season.
  • Panathinaikos striker Sebastian Leto spent two years at Liverpol, but never made an appearance in the Premier League due to problems with his passport and his application for a work permit being rejected.
  • These teams have never played each other before.
  • Tottenham have conceded just one goal in their last four away games in Europe, with that goal coming in a 1-0 defeat to Rubin Kazan in the group stage last season.
  • Spurs midfielder Aaron Lennon (pictured right) set a record in 2001 of being the youngest player ever to have his boots sponsored when he signed a contract with Adidas at the age of 14.
  • Tottenham have played four games against Greek opposition, including two last season against PAOK in last season's Europa League group stage, but have never scored in Greece.

Their website. It's all Greek to me.

Actually it's in English.

They've nicely asked their fans not to bring fireworks and lasers! Guess what they're bringing?

Meanwhile back at the news conference

AVB said:
Now we have Andre's quotes: "Panathinaikos are a big Club, I expect them to play at maximum against us and raise their game."
And team news from Andre: "No new injuries, Jake and Naughton should be ready after internationals. Ade not ready, has only trained once"
Finally, Andre says: "Our main objective is to win the competition. The Europa League is a hard competition to win with a lot of tradition."

Earth shattering stuff there. Although clearly on first name terms with Jake, but not Kyle N!

I'm really struggling to recognise the players in that pic, but if a senior player is on the plane, then for me, he might as well play instead of a youngster.

Doubtless we'll find out soon who actually travelled, and that will tell us a lot about the team tomorrow.

I guess with Andre's conference we've had some kind of official team news this time

It's great we didn't pick up any more injuries, the squad is really stretched ATM

we know 3 players who won't be playing, plus Kaboul BAE and Parker.

I wonder if Gallas travelled, I expect Brad didn't.

I remember Pana in the old European Cup and they were good so they have a bit of an aura for me. As for not scoring in Greece well we hadn't beaten Utd had we but now we have so we can score in Greece. I think we'll win this one but what by I don't know. After beating Utd each match now takes on more significance.

Jean-Alain Boumsong, is their "rock" at the back.

Defoe should be worried.
