Aye! I was trying to brighten up the match thread! rather tricky trying to be positive when you read the stats which say we have won 3 games against man utd since the premier league started..... so lets focus on their shaky defence and suspect midfield in hope of a positive outcome!

But for anyone that wants to read the grim viewing

    Try it without Ferguson, Boss.
    I bet it's virtually level.

I think it does Dawson a bit of a dis-service to suggest he can't be picked against United. However, if it does come down to choice between Caulker or Dawson to partner Gallas, then I 'd expect him to go with Caulker.

Chrissy Armstrong was unplayable that day, what a partnership he had with sheringham.

Whatever he's just written there still please consider barring him. He's a total prick to keep on saying about Spurs' record against Utd. We fecking know it,we fecking don't need anybody like him continually telling us. Please,PLEASE consider barring the boring little prat.

That'll be the Armstrong that was remorselessly booed, pilloried and abused by our very own 'supporters'.

I remember once he was booed before he set foot on the pitch, when the team sheets were read out, made me feel absolutely sick.

Hi Boss, nothing to do with respect to Utd, Ade is a better player than JD, full stop, and as a lone striker is far better.

I wouldn't mind JD & Ade playing but if it was just one, Ade all day, and every day.

I'm talking about when he's fit of course. I doubt he'll be fit tomorrow, so JD and Lennon will doubtless play and for me we'll be lightweight up front, and it'll be one of the many reasons why we lose.

To have even a chance at OT I think we need our top players like Bale JV Ade and Lloris, but I guess neither of the last two will play

Fair comment GH <ok> I agree that Ade is technically the better striker for a lone role, yet if you notice away from home our best chances come from quick counter attacks, and for that I would prefer JD. Yes Defoe is liable to missing a complete sitter but he always gets in great positions, and if we're able to hit utd on the counter then the pace of bale, lennon & defoe could be key, especially if we play Dempsey who linked up so well with defoe against qpr in the second half.

Fair enough but I think full match sharpness is very important in a game like this. Also Dawson and Gallas would be quite a slow defence against the pace of attack in whoever out of Welbeck, Hernandez, Van Persie and Rooney start.

Ovidiu Alin Hategan has been invited to the match as a guest of Chris Foy and Mark Clattenberg...

    Fair comments in return Boss.

I certainly hope we play Dempsey up there tomorrow, to me he's the type of battler you need at OT. But I can't see anything but a Utd win given the injury list we have, and AVB's apparent refusal to play the captain of France, AGAIN!.

The big decision to me is whether to play Dempsey or Gylfi. After leaning towards Dempsey for his toughness and experience, I'd rather Gylfi start now. He is the creative midfielder on our best team, and he just scored his first goal for us. Give him a chance. Plus Dempsey's the perfect player to bring off the bench when you need a goal or a kick in the pants.

I'd be surprised and disappointed if we didn't start Vertonghen at left back and Caulker at center. Vertonghen's looked great there, Caulker's looked solid on our opponent's set pieces and very dangerous from ours.

I agree with Dave on an earlier thread: if you look at the history or the refs, why bother showing up? But if you look at the teams, there's plenty of reason to hope. I expect a very aggressive approach from us, and think it will be very entertaining. Sandro and Dembele have to play well.

I wouldn't mind Gylfi starting instead of Lennon, but even though I'm a Lennon sceptic I have to admit he's doing well this season and deserves to start the game.

My whole footballing philosophy and past experience screams at me that having JD and Lennon playing up at OT is one small forward too many, but to be fair they both deserve to start. I think it will all go wrong and they'll get lost amidst the Utd dominance, but hey they won't be the first or last to do so.

I don't think that Sigurdsson playing behind Defoe works particularly well.
Dempsey can play as more of a striker and I think the little man needs that.
I'm looking forward to seeing Adebayor and the Icelander together, as I think it might bring out the best in both of them.
    The game in Greece, perhaps?

I fancy our chances of us getting at their fullbacks and Sigurdsson's the better player for getting our wingers into the game in my opinion. It's a close call but I'd rather see Sigurdsson start.

AFAIK their full backs are Rafael and Evra, I don't recall us getting much joy against them over the years

Lennon had a good game in the lge cup final IIRC, we still scored precisely zero goals in two hours.

I very much doubt we'll get much joy from our wingers tomorrow. Bale has really disappointed me this season, I thought he was going to be a monster, but he's been more like an amiable elf. Lennon's been doing better, but see above for my pessimism on his chances

I'd rather see a beefed up mid with Siggy Sandro and Dembele, but it's Parker we need out there.

I thought Rafael was out? Maybe not. Eitherway I fancy Lennon to have a good game against Evra, who has kept him quiet in the past, as Evra's now losing his pace and not as reliable as he once was. Rafael v Bale would be an interesting battle but hopefully Rafael's joined Valencia, Jones and Smalling on the injury list, leaving them another problem in defence playing either Evra or Buttner out of position.
