Cod is a bottom feeder. I spoke with someone who worked in a fish factory once. His job was pulling all the worms out of the cods skin. :emoticon-0119-puke: That Austins on Newland ave has unfortunately changed hands once again. It's now owed by some ethnic minority.

Haddock chips patty pease salt vinegar mug of tea. <ok> Cave st or Dundee :p

There isnt a fish and chip shop in Pompey that knows how to cook proper fish and chips. They dont know how to make the batter for a statrt and its all cooked in oil instead of lard. Most of the chippies are run by Chinese and its bloody awful. I love coming up for games just to sample a nice feed from a Hull chippy.

Not for with fish and chips, but proper chinese (as in the takeaways not the race) chips were the best when you just wanted a bag of chips. Is there anywhere that still does them because all the ones near where I stop down here have moved towards chippy style ones.

Many years ago my father in law worked on the Kurd (sister ship to the Gaul) and before that many a sidewinder trawler of the day. Most of the fish they caught were from Icelandic or Norwegian waters so none, in a sense, were local, but on the Kurd all the fish was gutted, packed and frozen on the ship before docking. In effect the Kurd, Dane, and Gaul were factory ships, the Russians had been doing this for years, so all the fish was ready to be taken off the ships and straight into cold storage and ready for distribution to wherever. Those ships were away for weeks at a time so none of the fish was, in effect, fresh, but my it still tasted good when we had a few fillets.

Dundee was a cracking chippy when old man Bulliment had it, went downhill after that, also anyone remember the chippy down perth st, run by a cockney guy called Harry? These days its cave street, haddock, chips, pattie, mushy peas and scraps, yep he is a miserable bleeder but who cares, i done want to be mates with him.

Ok, after spending a week on holiday with the missus, my brother and his missus, I have really gone off condiments. The brother's better half puts mayonnaise on everything. Lasagne, Paella, Bolognese, Chips, Bacon Sandwiches :)emoticon-0104-surpr)... I know I know.

I'll have a large haddock and chips, peas with plenty of Salt and Vinegar. The way God intended. And if I'm feeling particularly malicious, I might have a pickled egg while I wait for it to be cooked.

Mayo goes in Tuna sandwiches or in salad dressing. It should never be introduced to hot food ever.

Curry sauce....has anybody ever actually had a curry that tastes like curry sauce? It's not even spicy.

I'll accept Gravy is very versatile, but I'd not have it on chippy.

Red sauce for Sausages, Brown for Bacon. BBQ for chicken.

And chip spice....you can only really get it in Hull, I've yet to see it anywhere else which is both good and bad at the same time, because I think it gives us a bit of identity. Even America, where it claims to be from, haven't heard of it! Anyway, it goes on fries, but almost certainly not chips.

    :D
