That's both knees he's done now - doesn't leave much margin for error when he gets back. Last time he had this injury he was out for six months. He'll be back in time for the promotion run in and party then. Meanwhile we could do with a decent player on loan for a few months - if there's any money left in the kitty.
Really bad luck. I feel for him. I know what it's like to od a knee ligament in; not nice. We really need to bring in a loan now. Another injury up-front would be a disaster.
Really bad news, but at least we've got the squad to hopefully deal with it. Mason is the obvious one to benefit in terms of first team chances from this IMO. We've won every game Maynard has played in, I know he hadn't scored but he has to be a loss. Seems I owe the bbc radio an apology as they said he looked ****ed and he was.........
Bad news. Maynard was starting to show real promise. Time for Mason and Velikonja to step up to the plate. Although we still have Helder and Smith with Gestede returning to fitness and bellers able to fit in anywhere across the front line. With K9 and Earnie gone off the payroll there must be some spare cash to fund a decent loaner - probably a good youngster from a Prem side unless Malky has more ex-Watford/QPR players up his sleeve.
We don't need to worry! I'm gutted Maynard is injured but with Helguson Mason Veronica Smith Ballamy and Gustede!!We got plenty of options up front... I'm more concerned at the back with K9 going we only got 2 centre backs to cover the back 4 being Nugent and Turner?!? We keep banging on about strength and depth can I add we still got the same size squad it's very deceiving!! We've released/sold 5 defenders brought in 1 it's a bit worrying to me!
We just replaced not having anyone up front as options to not having anyone in defence it's a risk! I hope it pays off!
We might have the same number of players but the quality is very very different. I was surprised to see k9 go as 3 CBs and a youth team player doesn't seem enough. As I've said before I'm not as worried about fb as a defensively minded centre mid can do a job there. In fairness obviously mm has seen enough in Nuggent to consider him a better option than Gerrrard, k9 or drunken Darcy. So for me to describe him as a youth team player is perhaps a little harsh.
A real shame for the guy. He didn't get much football last season and despite not scoring looked to be causing problems for the opposition allowing others to benefit. The goals were just a matter of time. Is it just me or do there seem to be a lot more of this typr of injury these days? Ankles and knees are always problems but we see a lot if innocuous incidents resulting in serious injury ankles even more than knees. Is it down the the 'better' playing surfaces which together with the stud formations used provides more grip? As for the team, it is a great loss but with Eti, Mason and others we are blessed with cover. The way Noone and Smith have been playing it will be hard to leave them out of the side, so Bellamy just off HH? Or maybe Eti or Mason. Could Mason lead the line like Maynard against the Lions? I suppose we'll find out soon enough. I hope MM doesn't throw 442 out of the window as a result of this injury as keeping the opposition guessing could be a big bonus this year.
Irrespective of how he left us, I would not wish this injury on anyone. I hope he recovers and is able to resume his playing career although his pace is likely to suffer with having the same injury to both knees.
Fair play on not holding the grudge and 'celebrating' his misfortune to you and the other BC fans, I respect that. Will ACL have an effect on his pace? I know hamstrings can change a player forever (M. Owen) but I don't know if the ACL should cause that issue. Obviously the risk of another occurance is increased and it will take a long time for him to have full confidence in his ability to twist and turn quickly but I can't see why a knee stabilising ligament should cause a loss of out right pace.
I ruptured my right ACL and following the operation there was no loss of pace just a lot of muscle wastage.
Maynards not what I call a fast striker, and when he injured his knee the first time I didn't see any change in pace
