WATFORD FC is to retain the registration of Troy Deeney.
The Hornets welcomed the striker’s recent independent apology – however it was genuine remorse shown in a face-to-face environment, coupled with a serious commitment to rehabilitation on all levels, which was just as key to his retention.
This decision has been taken after extensive discussions between senior club officials, Deeney himself and his representatives.
The club believes it can play a key role in facilitating Deeney’s rehabilitation into a professional working environment, and will be closely monitoring all aspects of the forward’s activities connected with Watford FC.
No further comment will be made by any individual official.

I wouldn't be too sure about that - curfews aren't intended to impact adversely upon the requirements of an offender's normal employment.
If he was accounted for, which you would be when playing in a match/on the bench/on the coach... then I could see there being a way to make it work.
I am glad the club chose to keep his registration. Lets just hope he can repay the club by playing well and training well.
If he's on a curfew - which is most likely if he's tagged - the curfew hours will be decided by the Prison governor who will no doubt take into account his work requirements and he will be monitored by the local tagging company - it is possible to get variations to his curfew hours but he will need to apply to the prison to redo them. My guess is his curfew will not include Saturday or Tuesday nights.
He kicked a young lad in the head while he was on the ground, so there is no doubt in my mind that he should not be play for us again. Any comparisons with former players misdemeanours can not justify Deeney's services being retained by the club.
So how many punishments do you think he should have? If he should not play football for us then why should another club employ him. And if he is not to play football which other job should he be doing? Could he be a teacher, a policeman an architect or what - which profession wants to employ people who kick others in the head. Hopefully none. That is why we should accept a justice system that says "you have done wrong and this is your punishment" - once that is served - albeit he got off leniently - then you actually want him to rejoin society as a responsible member. Now if he re-offends he will need further and more sever punishment but let's wait to see if that happens.
I think I have to accept the "second chance" arguments, logically at any rate, though I don't think TD will ever become a favourite of mine...hard to divorce the man from the deed. I find it interesting to compare the views about this Watford footballer and the general opinions sometimes expressed on these boards about issues of law and order. Is there just possibly a greater willingness to forgive because he might knock in a goal or two or is that just a bit too cynical?
Lets see how you feel if (and it's a big if) he knocks in his 20th of the season to cement our place in the play-offs!
That's exactly how it is. Not going to beat around the bush...... his job is to play well for Watford and score goals. What I want, first and foremost as a fan, is success for Watford. I let the courts hand out the justice..... once he's out of jail if he wants to play for us, put in the effort and he does a good job then I'm fine with him playing for us.
Would you want Deeney or Garner? It's not really a hard choice....
Who knows IB? But, as you hint, it's highly unlikely and actually I'm old-fashioned enough to be absolutely sure I still won't count him among my players to admire. I'd prefer a play off place not dependent on 20 TD goals!
And I'm sure many, if not most, fans would agree, Lux. I too want success for the club I've supported for 30 years or so but for me, foolish idealist that I am, I find it hard to completely separate the footballer from the man. As others have said, let's hope he proves capable of putting thuggery behind him.
I can see what you're saying.
For me what makes it easy is that Deeney has not shown this thuggishness on the football pitch at all. With a player like Barton it's different, because it effects him on the pitch too.........
I am willing to believe that this was a stupid one-off incident - not helped by alcohol and a misguided attempt to help his brother. Do I think I would put TD on my list of mates - certainly not for the time being - but if he continues to show remorse and actually does some community positives with Watford then hopefully his crime will become a thing of the past
that's how i feel Leonardo. I'll be happy to see him back, as i do feel, perhaps idealogically, that this was a one off...and that he is filled with remorse, and wanting to get his life back on track, and i hope, to now give his all to family, club and community.
True, but they will need to come from somewhere. Vydra and the occasional Doyley cross gone wrong won't do it! We will create goals from midfield and set set pieces, Murray will weigh in with his share and Pudil will come good with a few, but GZ needs to find his best forward partnerships soon and communication is key. It wouldn't hurt a few of the british players to sit in on the English lessons either!
