Ok you say he has spent more than £50 million.

But look at Everton, they havnt spent that (in 2 years anyway), but then they have not had to really. Moyes has been there for years, they have been in the PL for years, same as coyle at bolton, the team itself has been together for a number of years, and it only takes 2-3 buys a season (if that) to keep them ticking over, Bruce virtually bought a full new team/squad as the one Keane left just wasnt good enough in his eyes, which does cost money and lots of it, even the toon had the nucleus of a good squad, as they didnt sell and decimate it when they went down.

£50mil in todays market isnt that bad tbh especially not for a whole new first team.

Yeah, I feel though with money Moyes would do VERY good, as well as Coyle. They made the best out of their situations, whereas Bruce has been fortunate to be able to spend large sums of money, without prevail.

Bad run or no bad run, if we finish in the top 10 Bruce has to stay. There is a lot to be said for consistency, and I think that Bruce is a good manager. It would be very hard to find another who would be guaranteed success. People have said MON, but he's not really a big step forward from Bruce, and there's no guarantee the players will respond to him. If we finish on the second page, however, I think it may be time to say to Bruce thanks, but no thanks.

Do you all know Bent was after a move - your just as well informed as me, your just believing certain rumours to make the pill easier to swallow- I'm just taking a step back and analyzing the overall picture.

Bent was after more money, if he got it from us he would have been happy to stay, he is a mercenary, money talks and ours would have smelt and felt just the same as Villa's.

How many goals has he scored for Villa - probably more than anyone at Sunderland in the corresponding period, what has happened to villa's form since Bent went there?

Bent was our talisman, if Bent was not so central to our success then why have we done so badly since he left, this is not conjecture, or based on me being "ITK" - just a fact.

Did Short sell bent - how many times have you heard Bruce allude to the fact that every player has his price - again, Villa met Bent's price - it was set to low, again this is fact, it will now cost us more to replace him(with an inferior player no doubt).

If he was unhappy he should have been allowed to go before the season started, not half way through a promising campaign.

If we are all going to be pedants I will insert a footer to read" This is merely my opinion", however I thought this would have been patently obvious to you, a moderator, that as I'm not claiming to be in the know then I'm not.

It is all getting a tad holier than though on this board isn't it.

Sorry mate but your whole thesis is based inuendo and assumptions, unless we have the facts we can only assume, but Bent knobing his daughter played a big part in my assumption

my point is, they havnt had to spend 50 million in 2 seasons, as they already have the nucleus of a very good squad, and Elmander cost 11mil (not Coyle i know, but still Bolton), Billyadenof (sp) 15 mil, fellini £12mil ( i think), so its not like they havnt spent anything at all, its just they can add 1 or 2 quality players a season, as they have the nuclues, we didnt when bruce took over.

Good point, I would love to have our club set up like that, I just have my doubts that Bruce is the right man to take us to that stage.

For me, thats what they are trying to do, Ok he has bought some duds, luckily they didnt cost a lot and all managers buy duds now and again, but like i said, we have the youngest squad, so hopefully the vast majority of those will play for us for awhile, and grow into a good team, who knows each others game, and we can buy 1 or 2 quality players every season, just to keep us ticking over, and hopefully add quality to the squad.

We are 90% safe now, i would say another win and that will be 100%, so give him another season, lets see who he brings in, and gets rid off, and see how we do next season, if things havnt improved any, then look at it again.

He does need to build his own squad, but most of the squad is his now. He has spent more than £50 million and for me the money he has made by selling players is for me irrelevant. He has still spent a lot of money and with that in mind he should be achieving more than what he currently is and has.

I think he should be given one more year to actually have a good consistent season.

For me the major plus so far with Bruce in control has been transfer dealings. We have gone from being a relegation threatened side annually to mid-table (flirting with relegation) side without adding substantially, if at all to the club's debts.

With or without Bruce it is difficult to see how we can move on to the next level if we are forced to adopt a sell before buying strategy in the Summer. If Mr Short is willing to continue funding the annual losses and make a reasonable budget available for new players what should we do? Stick with Brucie, who is unproven at a higher level or go for
a more experienced manager who has already achieved success ?

We shall see.

I think the Wigan win has lifted any threat from Bruce, lots of questions will still be asked and nswers needed and I'm sure Bruce will know how important next season is.

If he had to sell before buying you would have to ask, "sell who to raise the type of funds needed", any answer weakens the squad and team.

I see him being handed the 18/24 mil from Bent plus a further 10, or at least that would have been the plan to bring in one or two signings. Problem is now, we all know we need more than one or two, and thats just strikers.

****ing class rog, totally puts a different spin on it.
everyone is guessing about bent, and rog says cos he's knobing bruce's daughter, haha

Rog - is the Bent & Bruces daughter thing just more media tittle tattle?

Gives my thoughts a little credence

haha mate, he's not gonna come out and say, "when wor daz put i a transfer request like, i waz ower the moon like, the dirty little ****bags bangin me lassie, and i just couldntt see his mush nee more, waz a bit sceptical like at first, but hey man 24 mill, quinny made is do it"

na mate, i'm taking the piss, no one knows the reason really.

I think the Wigan win has lifted any threat from Bruce,

Well my take is no it hasn't, i think he is severely under threat, there are a lot of good points about Bruce, but the main job criteria hes paid for, he has been found wanting, Ellis must want a winner in charge, if bent leaving was about his daughter cant see him getting any cash to strengthen, so they will hope he walks, exactly the same scenario with M.O.N. his bluff was called and as soon as he had gone cash for players available.

In business, boardroom knifing abounds, Brucie will not be the first or last, but hey this is only my assumption i have no facts like most of the contributors on here, knife me where you want I'm used to it. p.s. no pork bayonets allowed
