Quinn seeks answers Published on Saturday 23 April 2011 17:19 Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has promised the club will learn the lessons of their disastrous slide down the Barclays Premier League table. Manager Steve Bruce has cited a lengthy injury list as the root cause of his side's slump, and the club is currently analysing possible reasons for that, while disgruntled fans have pointed to the controversial decision to allow striker Darren Bent to leave for Aston Villa in January. Writing in his programme notes ahead of Saturday's game against Wigan game, Quinn said: "Part of the bigger picture is that we need to address why we have so many injuries compared to other clubs." He added: "We all know that injuries are part of football and that any player can get injured at any time. "But we have to examine whether the number of injuries that have hampered us are down to sheer misfortune or is there something we can do to reduce the number of injuries that beset us? "We also take responsibility for the departure of Darren Bent and how we thought that would affect the team. "Just five days after his transfer, we learned that we would be without Danny Welbeck for eight weeks and learning from that, we have to look at giving the manager every chance of improving us and taking us further by giving him a stronger hand. "In congratulating Stoke City on reaching the cup final, we observe that while they are close to us in the Barclays Premier League, they have six forwards available. "We will consider whether that is the way to go for us rather, than risk being threadbare in the striking - or any other - department if a series of injuries to players in that position occurs."
It can't all be down to bad luck! Something needs investigating. No other team has had as many long term injuries as we have. I have watch loads of football matches over the years and no other team has lost players so early in the game and not just once but over and over again.
Are we buying / loaning players with a history of having injuries? Mensah springs to mind. Do we need to sack the physios / medics?
hence the reason we should have signed a striker after we sold bent and i was slaughtered by 1 or 2 on here for saying so, but hey,it didn't stop us scoring 3 goals with no recognised striker today so i'm not complaining
Like I said in January - who was there to buy? You couldn't make a credible suggestion then, you can't now, so why not stop whinging on about it?
well robbie keane was available, as was fuller, boothroyd, any 1 of these would have been welcomed. But now we don't have 1 striker fit, so that's the end of the debate thank you very much
none of the players mentioned by murray out are the type of player to fit in. People should be worrying about goals not coming from the midfield. Hamstrings can heal very quickly
End of debate? Cos you say so? I said credible - none of the above are credible replacements for a 25 goals a season striker. Don't go into a strop whenever you're challenged by someone. If you make comments on a forum you can expect feedback. If you don't want it, don't post. And I haven't noticed any of the above setting the world on fire in the past three months.
Robbie Keane....no thanks Fuller.....no thanks Boothroyd....untested at this level It's alright looking back and saying we should have signed so and so, but if we were going to sign someone it had to be a quality player,none were available at the time.Why waste money on stop gap players? One final thought....could anyone have predicted that all of the forwards would be injured at the same time?
haha no strop 4 me m8, i'm not the type, but any of the 3 mentioned would be better than no striker at all

robbie keane clearly was available, as was fuller, probably boothroyd too if the price was right, but like you say it's all well and good looking back. Sessagnon done very well up front yesterday so let's hope for the same again this saturday
