Morning All I dont know if many of you have tried using the new service our club has set up with Viagogo, so that if you cant make a game you can sell your seat and maybe recoup some money back for the cost of your season ticket. ANYWAY I cant make the Chelsea game as im off on holiday with the Mrs for 10 days......as gutted as I was that I couldnt make probably one of biggest fixtures this season, I thought I would soften the blow by selling my ticket with the new service. It was relativley easy to set up and once your ticket sells, they transfer the money into your bank account minus their 10% cut on the matchday. Anyway I was suprised to see that you can set the ticket price at whatever you see fit.....so you can choose well above market value. I thought I would be cheeky and set mine at £100 and within a matter of minutes it was sold......there was me thinking "result!" that goes towards some of my season ticket cost! Now I see that the tickets are selling for £350+ and people are buying them!!! Now, not only does that show that people are willing to pay over the odds to watch our bigger games, thus showing a newer bigger stadium is desperatley needed, but also that would have been nearly half my season ticket cost just for missing 1 game! I'd advise anyone to look at the service for any games they cant make.
Do you get the full amount you asked for back Franckster? I've signed up, but was using the service to try and buy some tickets for a band at a gig which was 'sold out'. The asking price was £10 above face value, but once Viagogo's charges and handling fees were put on it added another £13, effectively doubling the face value price. Wonder if these are fixed charges or go up with the cost of whatever you are buying......and whether they also take a cut from the seller? Overall a good service for when you can't make a game, but there won't be many you can get £100 for, let alone £350.....
Indeed....I know that the reason for the high prices is the fact that we are playing Chelsea and the johnny come lateleys and plastics are out in force to watch the game. But im just shocked at how much you can get for 1 game....even Chelsea at home. You dont get the full amount it sold for, I believe they take 10%.....so I will get £90 from the £100 sale. Im suprised they charge the buyer fees as well!
Indeed....when you spend £700+ for the year, £350 goes a long way to paying that off. Now I know why my ticket sold so quickly now!
I don't get it ? I thought ticket touting was illegal but isn't this what is happening ? Not having a go at you personally Franckster but if it was a bloke in the street shouting 'buy or sell tickets' then the OB would be on him like a ton of hot bricks. Anyone know how this is legally allowed to happen ? I'm just curious.
Might have to buy one extra season ticket next year and sell the big games , will pay for itself and can take freinds/family to the other fixtures for free!!
May be i'm missing something here - how do you sell your season ticket for a game ? You have a card, do you send that to the person and they send it back ???? Sounds risky chaps !!!!!!!!!!!
Right.......first things first, this isnt illegal or ticket touting, as the service was setup by QPR themselves, it is designed for a Season ticket holder such as myself to sell your seat for games that you cant attend......firstly so that seat doesnt go to waste and secondly so you can retain some money back. A lot of clubs such as Chelsea that offer the same service, cap what you can sell the ticket for at market value.....QPR do not. You link your season ticket to your Viagogo account and when your ticket sells, your season ticket is deactivated for that game by the club......a paper ticket is then sent out to the person who bought the ticket from QPR themselves....its not risky and is fully setup by QPR but managed by Viagogo.
Thanks for clearing that up Franckster, i will be using it then as there are games i can't make. If they get a paper one then there is zero risk............ cheers
Franckster- I did say I wasn't having a go at you personally and to that fact I kept my own views out of it (I would share them if you wish but you might not like OR agree with my personal views on the subject). I only asked how it was allowed to legally happen as it is, in essence, ticket touting and I didn't know how they could get away with it, when the man in the street would be nicked straight away. I really am curious and if anyone knows the answer please can someone tell me.
I dont people should legally be allowed to sell over face value because it is touting, make the max you can make face value once the fees have been taken away. I assume the only difference is that the gov gets its share of the online transaction but not from a tout which is what its really all about. Its got nothing to do with trying to stop the fans getting ripped off.
Yeah I know you wernt mate.....I was just explaining it and how it works. I would have never even consider it, but QPR and Ian Taylor quite heavily marketed the new service and as I couldnt make the game I thought I might give it a try and as all the other tickets were selling for £100, that is what I put mine on for (the site actually suggests a price to you). Would be interested in your views on it though, even if you think its wrong...thats cool..... At the end of the day if you own the rights to that seat for the season and you cant make it and someone is willing to pay you over the odds for your seat just for that day then in my opinion thats fine.....others may disagree....but the Club themselves endorse it. Ticket touting in my view is some hustler buying up a load of tickets at the normal value and then selling them on for a higher value, so people would have never had the chance to buy that seat at the lower value in the first place.
Mate, in your post you speak a hell of a lot of sense and I really can't argue with anything you say. Personally I do find it morally wrong to make money from another supporter of our team. Ive had tickets for many England and QPR games that were going for silly money, including 4 tickets for England v Germany at Euro96 that I could of sold for £2k a piece, but I've never made a penny from the lads who have had the tickets ( barring a beer bought for me). I've always said if any of my 3 season tickets aren't gonna be used I would ask mates or lads on here first. Again I'm not trying to take the moral high horse and most definately ain't having a go at you, just putting forward my views. And I STILL can't see the difference between Viagogo and ticket touting.
It's supply and demand and has happened since time immemorial. Legit but dodgy and investigated by Channel 4. Frankly, not top of my ethical dilemmas list. Now airline ticket pricing and overbooking on the other hand.........
No thats a perfectly valid opinion and to the greater extent I agree......also I wont be selling anymore of my tickets as I absolutely hate missing games. But in this case Im off on holiday.....I dont have anyone I know that I can give/sell the ticket to, so it seemed like an easy option (which it is), without sending my season ticket off to someone I dont know on a football forum. I was just a bit shocked to see the value at which they are selling on the site that QPR has an agreement with.
Used viagogo for the Swansea game. Upper Loft. £28 ticket plus £7 admin fee (or thereabouts). Good service. Picked up ticket at the Box Office. Still looking for a refund........
