Alessandro Del Piero is set to confirm his move to Australian club Sydney FC today, despite reported interest from Liverpool.

The 37-year-old former Juventus striker is due to hold a press conference in Turin at 12.30BST when it is expected he will confirm he has joined the A-League side.

OH well it would have been nice!

I bet you'd have said the same about Beckham before he went to the states, but now everybody knows who he is over there. That's the kind of draw it would have for Del Piero. To play a part in bringing soccer to a relatively untapped market.

If he had come here i think it would of made people ask the question on whos picking our team,
    Adkins or Cortese.

Beckham went to LA for the money, the sunshine and the Hollywood lifestyle. He's not getting any younger and he's achieved pretty much all he could have hoped for in football, so I don't begrudge him that.

My mate moved to Perth, Australia. I know it's not Sydney, but he told me that the general opinion is that football is very much ignored, and well down the pecking order. I'd suggest he wants to move there as its a lovely part of the world! Can't blame him to be fair, had a cracking career and deserves to see out his playing days in a far far lower standard than what he has played all his life.
