Have you been to Australia or just basing your thoughts on travel brochures ? They have as many social problems as anywhere else with burglary, murders, drugs, violence, immigration issues, etc, etc. It is a vast country and it depends where you are, but Sydney has plenty of the above, even though it is a beautiful city/port and i have had some great times there. Most Aussies never see the outback ! Still i expect Del Piero would be shielded from most of it, just as he would be here.
Tough decision for Del Piero, I do think Liverpool would get him if they show a serious interest. I imagine our interest in him is very much Cortese driven. Could be a hero of his, don't know who he supported as a lad
He'd do a job for Liverpool, just as he would us. The difference is, they need him a lot more than we do.
The best way to keep the ball out of the net, is to keep possession of the thing. This is often dictated by a midfielder not a defender.
I've been to Sydney and a few places nearby. It's a great city, areas like the Botanical Gardens, Circular Quay, etc and the Blue Mountains were nice as well. Of course there's the problems you mentioned but as you say, that's the same as anywhere, I'm not 100% sure but I can't imagine it's that much worse than the UK Haha, good point.
Australia would be the choice of a cushy retirement. Saints would be the choice if he wanted to have a go at playing in the best league in the world. Probably the one achievement he doesnt have yet.
I got my approval from the Australian Immigration Beureau so am starting the process now. I'd move there now if I could! It's a gorgeous country with an even sexier younger sibling to the east! Better weather and quality of life. Everywhere has crime but Melbourne is the number 1 place to live in the world. Sydney is pretty nice. If he is smart he'll move there.
I have lived there , great place but Sydney is very very very expensive to live , city centre , eastern suburbs more expensive or the same as London , New York . Good if you have money or want to rent , if you want to own you will live in a boring sunny characterless suburb miles out in the westBUT some people enjoy this or are far too proud to say otherwise .
Parts of Melbourne are lovely but again very expensive , if I went back Perth of Brisbane , People forget how expensive Australia is , it's very very expensive , yes that means the UK is cheaper .
There is a very simple rule. If he comes here, it is a coup and he is brilliant. If he goes to Sydney, he is past it and we never wanted him anyway
I live in Melbourne and have been to Sydney a lot, a few months ago someone was king it in Sydney and much of the country was outraged as that sort of malicious attack is mostly unknown to Australians. Night clubs are the only place where innocent people get caught up in any strife that I can think of, apart from that Australia is very safe. Del Piero would be a much needed boost to the A-League regardless of how he plays, if he plays well he will be massive. I would prefer to see him playing well at saints although if he isn't going to be near the first team it would be better for Del Piero to play where whatever he does his club and fans will be grateful. Plus he will be getting a larger salary.
Liverpool have become a negative and destructive force in English football. Their fans abuse great managers and their club manages to demotivate great players. Liverpool are in the same category as Pompey for me, historically interesting but of no consequence to the modern game.
No mate you would be wrong about him being a massive star there........Well it does mean what you mean by massive star I suppose. He would be going to a side with a standard of football not much better than a conference side. (Yes I have been there and seen them play) He would be a huge star to around 20000 maybe if he was lucky. Football (Soccer to them) is not idolised over there like here, there idols are in either rugby or Cricket depending on the season. So if he was looking for adulation that would not be the place to go. If he has a lot of pride in his football abilities I would have thought he would be better off going elsewhere than Australia.
