Just on SSN, according to Stoke City sources. 11 years and 3 days ago, Michael Owen was scoring a hattrick for England against Germany and Stoke were in League 1. At that time if you said that Michael Owen would play for Stoke, you would've been taken away by the men in white coats. http://www.stokecityfc.com/news/article/owen-signs-352543.aspx STOKE CITY have today won the race to sign England international striker Michael Owen on a free transfer, subject to Premier League Board approval. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid hit-man has penned a one-year deal at the Britannia Stadium, following his release from Manchester United at the end of the 2011/12 campaign. Owen has enjoyed a glittering playing career both home and abroad, scoring 221 goals in 473 appearances. The Chester born front-man becomes City’s seventh signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Jamie Ness, Geoff Cameron, Michael Kightly, Maurice Edu, Charlie Adam and Steven N’Zonzi. One of England’s most decorated players, Owen boasts an impeccable scoring record at international level, wracking up 40 goals from his 89 caps, including a memorable hat-trick against Germany in a 5-1 victory just over a decade ago. He arrives in the Potteries on the back of a three-year stay at Old Trafford, whereby despite his well-documented injury problems, he still managed to score 17 goals in 52 appearances - including three in four games last season.
Sgt,just in final talks according to SSN website, decision expected tomorrow. Don't know what to think myself but if he signs and he scores then it may be a good move.
Also confirmed on BBC website but no details as yet. What happens now as far as the likes of Walters, Jerome, Ethers I wonder?
I am sure TP will order the medical team to make sure Owen passes the medical, he won't want any balls-up on that!!
absolutely brilliant news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Owen playing for stoke....................unbelievable!!!
Mr owen who is injured after huffing and puffing around the pitch for some of the game before subbed. You be after robbie fowler next.. seriously you can do better than a has been...
And of course Swansea are more ambitious? So what you are saying is, IF your Manager signed him you would say NO WAY we don't want him? Sunderland would have, I thought Liverpool might and they are not bigger more ambitious than Swansea..
A good move by Stoke, every body knows who Owen is all over the world, so when he is reported about, every one will know he is at Stoke City f.c. and its all good publicity for Stoke, see how many press people will be there at the next match.
Actually I would say we don't want him, I wish him all the best at stoke, but he would not fit into the way we play football and I am not saying that is a bad thing, but our style of play requires players who have a high energy, can you honestly say that would be Owen at his age ?
That's fair enough but.. Owen will score given the chances.. IF he get's a chance he will most probably hit the net, that is exactly what we're missing.. hores's for cours's NO pun intended. And a GILLINGHAM fan?
It will be very interesting in the coming weeks to see what team and set-up TP selects to accommodate MO. Having not off-loaded anyone in the transfer window we will have surplus players who may not even make the bench. I feel a selection of 'posters' team-sheets coming on. I will need to give it some thought yet before I submit my 'team' on here. Thoughts?
Don't know what they are on about,it was on BBC Radio Kent they said he retired thought it was strange as he has just signed for you.
