He will be able to play until he is 40 no doubt , what standard is another question , marketing value alone at £15,000 a week is a no brainer , sign him . The issue is Liverpool now want him and will offer more .
This is true, also along with Sion and Sydney FC it looks like we have already offered a contract so we are one step ahead.
No they have rabid fans furious at a new regime over lack of signings , not a good way to start . Put yourself in the shoes of Del Piero , Liverpool will offer more as well , the thing that goes against them is Henrys letter to the fans saying they will build from the academy .

If he is coming to saints doesn't he have to be registered by 5pm to be in the final 25 prem league squad?
If a club is unable to name 25 fit, over-21 players, in their squad they will be allowed to submit a list with a number of open positions that can then be filled by free agents at any time. However, clubs who do have 25 fit and over-21 players cannot deliberately leave players off the list in order to fill them with free agents between now and January 1. Hope that helps.
No, as he's a free agent as long as we have free spaces in our squad after registration he can be registered at any point.
I'd take him at St Mary's in a heartbeat - he's got creativity by the bucketload, & as others have already mentioned, his potential influence on the squad would be superb. Aussie press are saying that he's signed there though, so ho hum :/
Not sure if this has been said but freeing up space ? Billy at Forest so if any truth maybe that's Del place .
I don't think it's about firepower, it's more about a wise head supporting the youngsters and someone who can be used say in the last 20 mins of a game when we are 2-1 up and trying to keep hold of that. Ring any bells? Would that have helped on Sunday?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/sep/04/sydney-southampton-alessandro-del-piero? If he believes he can still play at the top level and isn't just looking for a holiday then it has to be Saints.
He was a great player. The key word here is Was. It would leave a bad taste in my mouth that we got bid of Billy Sharpe to make way for "OldDellPiero"
