We are selling-to-buy, It's a shame, I understand about FFP and being self-sufficient but it is crucial at the same time that we get back into the CL as soon as possible, then we can worry about self-sufficiency
Yeah I found it strrange as well. Tony Barret confirmed that he was offered to Fulham for Dempsey. There is one player that I'm not too convinced about and that is Martin Kelly. He seems extremely uncomfortable playing at RB. Would like to see him pushed into the centre now. Here is the loan deal for Sturridge: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19434488
We've got Suarez who at the moment is scoring a few...Borini who we just don't know how he'll turn out...and no one else of Prem standard even. So we've got two forwards for a formation that requires 3? I wanted this summer to be about squad building not squad slashing. We'll be weaker than last year up top if we aren't careful.
But you also have to bare in mind that Rodgers likes the 4-6-0 formation that Spain employed in the summer. I'm not disagreeing with you as I too think we need two to come in, but I am looking at what we have and what Rodgers is aiming for.
And why not, we haven't even submitted a bid for him apparently, I feel as Ayre as lead negotiator we are lacking that bit of guile. How are we losing transfer targets to the likes of Villa and Sunderland ffs
If this is true it'll confuse the hell out of me. Not starting a compare the manager war (I suggested last night we stop doing that!) but other than Suarez is that pretty much all of KD's/Comollis buys being told "I don't really want you" by BR? Adam Carroll Hendo Downing ( unless he makes LB work) Forgot about Enrique I suppose.
In all fairness there's no weight behind the hendo rumour and it's not like he's specifically targeting KD players, he's also shipped out Cole and Spearing
Adam, Carroll and Downing - understandable. I suppose Rodgers is trynig to raise as much cash as possible. Players like Henderson and Carroll are young and dispensible. Out of all of our players that aren't central to the team or a part of the spine/core, these two would probably raise the most cash.
Not sure if I believe this Henderson offered to Fulham stuff. I think he's developing OK for his age and there are signs of a really decent midfielder coming through.Important back up at the mo IMO.
Whilst I don't think Hendo will ever be the midfielder we thought he could be (I think he will just become good but not great tbh) I also think we really need him for squad depth
I dread to think that a 4-6-0 formation is what he's aiming for. Even if he is then surely goal scoring midfielders are what we want so why wait so long to bring in someone like Dempsey? Its all a bit arse about face the way we do our dealings don't you think. We want Sturridge but that might have to be a loan deal now if at all...remember last time we went striker shopping on the last day of a transfer window? I can think of 35million reasons why we shouldn't be doing exactly the same again.
Although he would improve our current situation (to be fair, so would N'Gog or Heskey!), I have my concerns about us going for Sturridge. We already have Suarez and Sterling that like to run with the ball, can you imagine all three playing in the same front line...? Also, surely the Sturridge move would depend on Chelsea signing at least two forwards themselves? They currently only have Torres and Daniel
I think the constant link to Dempsey strengthens the argument that Rodgers is looking towards the 4-6-0 formation. He isn't a striker as such is he? IMO, Brendan didn't see Carroll as part of his plans because of his movement (the not being able to be part of the passing system is just bollox). Rodgers wants players that are flexible and able to interchange with others - Suarez, Borini, Sterling, etc can all play left, right or centre, they can drop back to help out defensively too. With Carroll, you don't really get that. We won't sign a Fowler, Owen, Huntelaar type of striker IMO
Doubt Dempsey will go there. Makes no sense for him. Hopefully this will force us to make the bid and if we do, I'm sure Dempsey will join us.
