He'll be worth the £2million if he does this in the last minute against the Skates in the FA Cup :)

But seriously, I can't really say whether it's a good signing or not because I've never seen him play.

However... He's young, can play as a left or right sided centre back, and is Japan's captain, so he must have something about him.

Weirdly similar to Tadanari's Japan goal?

"I saw a video of the recent history of Southampton since the takeover, which showed me the great supporters when the club was promoted last season."

The Japanese obviously not as technologically advanced as we've all been led to believe...

So unless I'm reading it wrong he will not join up with the squad until after the international games?

I wonder if it's in the contract...players who agree to mention the video in their intro interview get an extra 1k p/w.

Just found this video, from 2:54 is evidence that his English is considerably better than Lee's:

Captained Japan in the Olympics, scored a headed goal against Egypt. Can't really remember his individual contribution but I recall Japan looking defensively very solid, so hopefully that was down to him!

Yep Japan showed at the Olympics that they are an emerging force. Nice to know we have two of their best players!
